Last night I refrained from criticizing them for their moment of silence for Charlie Kirk, since the guy had just been killed. Many DUers made the point that the team did not offer a moment of silence for other recent Democratic victims of gun violence.
Well, tonight, according to Ron Filipkowski on bluesky, the Yankee players are posing with a smiling trump before their game.
And, as Filipkowski points out, the Naval Academy is on lockdown from a shooting, Charlie Kirk's assassin is on the loose, and Russia is launching drones into Poland. But trump has time for this and atleast some of the players want to be photographed with him as though they're having the times of their lives.

(43,094 posts)since right after WWII, when Las Vegas hotelier Del Webb, Dan Topping and Larry McPhail bought them from. Col. Jake Ruppert. They didn't sign a Black player (catcher Elston Howard) until 1955, eight years after Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers abd Cleveland Indians, respectively. Topping feared a Black player would entice Black fans to Yankee Stadium, which, he thought, would keep white fans away.
Topping also introduced the Yankees' "clean" policy -- short hair, no moustaches, beards or sideburns, and wearing coats and ties away from the ball park -- the "Yankees image." This stuck around into the '70s, and an element if the "ìmage" seemed to be revitalized at home games after Sept. 11, 2001, then the club began playing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch, with ushers preventing fans from leaving their seats until the song was over.
In summary, the Yankees are right-wingers, which is a big reason I despise them.
