The closest border to Orem, Utah is Nogales, Mexico.

I was curious about that, as the shooter had essentially had a 24-hour head start. If he got into a car yesterday after the shooting (around 2:23 pm Eastern time) and kept driving, they would have been crossing the border to Mexico around 2-3 am Eastern time. It's about a 12-hour drive.
I wonder when the authorities had enough information to put out a BOLO and prevent this. If they did not have relevant info the first 12 hours, this person could be gone.

2. He would have to have a place to stay.

It is too dangerous to be driving around randomly with a $100K reward on his head.

He should have identified a secret hiding place ahead of time.
With provisions.

Even a trusted family member would be tempted by the $100K reward.

I have not checked exactly when they put out the FBI bulletin with the pictures of the person they are looking for but I thought it was this morning. Was not it?

6. My point is that he should have made an escape and hideaway plan ahead of time.

It doesn't matter when the reward was posted. Or the pictures.

He should have anticipated he would be the subject of an FBI manhunt.
And that they would find his gun with the prints. He should have disposed of it better.

Video cameras and ring doorbells are everywhere, he should have worn a disguise.

He was sloppy and lazy.

Yes he is a good shot with nerves of steel.
But an amateur.

I am also relieved that most of the time, killers are sloppy. God help us if a competent assassin starts shooting at political figures.

10. For many of the shooters it is their first big crime and they make mistakes.

You can see with the serial killers they get better each time they commit the crime.
You can see the progression and learning curve.

Early in my career I worked with the police and courts so I got interested in crime
scene investigation. One of my fellow students in grad school was an expert on serial killers
and talked about them in almost every class. So I learned a bit about the criminal mentality.

The Kirk shooter made a good shot, skill and luck.
And got a clean quick getaway.

So he is not stupid.
The gun with prints and the pictures were stupid.
We shall see how long he is out in the wild before he is brought in.

he might have gotten away with hardly a whiff of clues left behind.

Peacock hired Eddie Redmaine to play the Jackal, and the first season was fantastic. If you like cat-and-mouse thrillers, this one was well done. It's a modern story, not like the original book.

A bit of it was totally far fetched and not in character but I loved it all the same.

We don’t extradite on capital offenses to DP states. It’s in our state constitution.

The trials take place in Michigan and the maximum is life in prison. Proudly, we were the first state to outlaw the DP in 1847.

Only way around it would be a federal case.

Plus I’m sure Mexican authorities have been instructed to watch border crossings.

It headed over AZ to the border and then its transponder went dark.

It would get them past the rough patch known as Northern MX.
