(1,580 posts)He's basically saying this is Trump's chance to consolidate power like Hitler did in Nazi Germany.
Or maybe he does understand...
It was the canary in the political coal minea flashpoint event when Adolf Hitler played upon public and political fears to consolidate power, setting the stage for the rise of Nazi Germany. Since then, its become a powerful political metaphor. Whenever citizens and politicians feel threatened by executive overreach, the Reichstag Fire is referenced as a cautionary tale.

(21,352 posts)With the Nazis in powerful positions in the German government, the decree was used as the legal basis for the imprisonment of anyone considered to be opponents of the Nazis, and to suppress publications not considered "friendly" to the Nazi cause. The decree is considered by historians as one of the key steps in the establishment of a one-party Nazi state in Germany.

(5,252 posts)Something about the whole "ammunition engraved with
Antifa and pro-trans messages" story doesn't smell right to me---
it almost sounds like how the far-right or Q-Anon would 'write' this story,
in a way to most inflame their own base!
(and increase hatred toward the left in general and trans in particular!)
Almost a stereotypical copy of how the far-right depicts "the radical leftists"
as being the main proponents of 'political violence'
which is one of their main current (but inaccurate) narratives...

(3,657 posts)The story is absolute bullshit. You have a Trump wingnut operative running the FBI. Don't buy a fucking word of it.

(5,252 posts)Not totally convinced that there actually ARE any words engraved on the cartridges---
but that's their narrative so far....

(12,786 posts)But hey, let's lock up those who we might think may have done it anyway. Who needs evidence? Let's pretend the political party we are Not supporting killed the guy who made it possible for the shooter to be able to shoot at him.
If that picture the FBI released was actually accurate, (and god knows the FBI is completely unreliable) he kind of looks like a right wing idiot. Liberals are not real fond of wearing excessive nationalistic paraphernalia. It's a right wing dress code not a liberal dress code.

(51,554 posts)They follow the playbook of 1930s Germany repeating all their favorite steps to demonize and punish people they don't like.
Our side is condemning political violence in all its forms. Their side is openly calling for pain and punishment to make themselves feel better.
