WI-GOV: Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson endorses David Crowley for governor, ending speculation about his own run
MADISON - Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson is endorsing Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley in the 2026 Democratic primary for governor, ending speculation that the mayor might launch a run himself.
Johnson plans to endorse Crowley at an event in Milwaukee on Wednesday evening. Milwaukee Common Council President Jose Perez and Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson also will announce their endorsements, according to Crowley's campaign.
Crowley launched a run for governor earlier this week.
In July, Johnson said he would consider a run, but Democratic sources told the Journal Sentinel it was unlikely both Milwaukee government leaders would launch bids in the same race.
