That wasn't a drug boat, and it wasn't headed to the U.S. You will note this modified go-fast had three huge outboard motors, which consume fuel like an alcoholic let loose in a brewery. In drug boats, space is at a premium, as is fuel. so it's content obligatorily is, in order 1) enough gas to get to where you're going. This craft didn't have any of the additional fuel barrels necessary for such a long trip from Venezuela to the U.S.
It also wasn't a drug boat. Second priority for any drug boat is to carry as much cocaine as you can physically pack into every available space. No sight or evidence of bales of cocaine typically carried in go-fast
Finally. drug boats don't carry passengers Their cargo is only supposed to make money by moving cocaine. Drug go-fasts typically carry a crew of 1-3: The pilot, one loader and possibly a second loader. 11 people occupying all the space where the bales of cocaine would have made zero sense.
Well, maybe they were carrying illegal immigrants. Again, the economics make no sense. What does an illegal immigrant pay to be boated to the US?
$1,000? Let's say the fantastic sum of $10,000 per person. That would make the gross revenue for that aborted sailing some $110,000 which is just a rounding error in the cocaine trade. The same craft filled with cocaine would be worth at least $2MM.
Just more fiction and fact from the NeoCon playbook.

(14,886 posts)the pilot of the go-fast had some down time between shipments of coke and decided to make a few fast bucks by taking Venezuelans desperate to get out of the hellhole that is today's Venezuela by taking them (for beaucoup $$$, of course) to one of the Caribbean islands within range of Venezuela.

(14,886 posts)Certainly not the cartels. Loss of a shipment (which is the only thing that counts) is factored into their P&L strategy. The crew loss is less than immaterial, is the loss of the boat and motors. Plenty more where those came from.

(14,886 posts)IF there were any evidence the government of Venezuela is sponsoring these drug cartels or presenting some type of danger to the U.S. The reality is that it doesn't. Even in countries with vigorous anti drug enforcement, the cartels manage to earn untold billions of dollars each year. Blaming Venezuela is just another Trump red herring.
