(3,074 posts)Professorship ain't what it was like 1 or 2 generations ago. In my circle of friends and colleagues anyway, the idea of tenure is the remotest of possibilities. All the universities in my area have been loading up on "adjunct" professors and they are very poorly paid, with minimal benefits if any. An undergrad student might make it through 8 semesters never seeing a full tenured professor more than a few times.
And as others have noted, adjunct professors are in no position to be doing any grooming. The ones I know have several jobs to cobble together a living. And that is ironic because tuition just keeps shooting up.

(9,216 posts)There ARE a lot of far right racists and an interesting history of some pretty weird violence in that state. And lets never forget the mass murder of settlers moving west, thru Utah that they tried to blame on Native Americans, Mountain Meadows Massacre.

(54,850 posts)In 2021, Mr. Robinsons mother posted a video of her son reading a letter in which he said he had received a presidential scholarship to Utah State University worth $32,000. But a university spokeswoman said that Mr. Robinson only attended the university for one semester in 2021, as a pre-engineering major. The school is roughly two hours away from Utah Valley University, where the shooting took place.

(19,284 posts)"In response to the arrest of the suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk, we can confirm that Tyler James Robinson is a third-year student in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College. He briefly attended Utah State University (one semester in 2021) and received concurrent enrollment credit through Utah Tech University while in high school (2019-2021)."

I can find no cold, hard evidence that Robinson received a "$32,000 presidential scholarship to Utah State University," so I remain skeptical. There is an old video of Robinson on social media showing Tyler Robinson reading a letter announcing that he had received a scholarship for Utah State University. The video shows him reading aloud from a letter stating that he had been awarded a scholarship worth about $32,000." Nothing more.

(19,284 posts)Are you still relying on social media rightwing talking points, repeating the false narrative Robinson was a lefty, and somehow politically aligned with Italian fascists? That bit of nonsense has been thoroughly debunked. If you're going around demanding "cold, hard evidence" for every posting on this site, you won't have much time for anything else.
The original posting was about Dinesh D'souza spreading lies that Robinson was indoctrinated by a bunch of woke lefty professors while a university student. That's total bullshit. That's the whole point of this entire conversation. You're getting lost in the weeds here, it all seems a bit picayunish.

Response is to remove all conservative right wing thinking from our universities. Only then can you blame leftists for the results.

(8,452 posts)IF colleges were truly propaganda, then those with 4-year degrees would lean heavily Democratic, but the % of college grads is split fairly evenly across the boards. SO there is NO goddamn brainwashing going on.
Sure, as you get into the advanced degrees the students do tend to be more Liberal, but by then they are older and are pursuing disciplines in science, research, philosophy, etc. I suppose the % of advanced degree Republicans probably are MBA babies.
This insane attack on higher education is straight out of the Fascist playbook. The reason they are so hellbent on this line of bullshit is NOT because colleges are cranking out brainwashed Liberals, but THEY WANT the colleges to crank out brainwashed Conservatives. The right has already taken down the media pretty much. Next attack is universities (and it's already happening).

(12,786 posts)Tyler Robinson is every conservative parent's dream child.
He loved guns and weapons. There are pictures of him as a 6 and 8 year old holding up weapons his skinny arms can barely handle. And all the way up to his adulthood he can be seen showing off weapons.
He dropped out of a community college in a Mormon state four years ago. He was enrolled in a a technical college. No left leaning fact biases are going to turn him away from his gun culture. His parents are extremely well off, so they could buy him rifles and guns. He lived a well pampered life even though he didn't work for it.
He was bathed in gun culture and took it on enthusiastically. The family went on shooting vacations. Maybe his parents weren't as bad as the Crumbleys but they provided a strong platform for their son to jump off of into murder.
Their son exhibited all the traits they taught him. Isn't that every conservative's dream child?

(7,026 posts)I was a political science major as an undergrad. I don't recall a whole lot of left-wing spiel. There wasn't much right-wing stuff either. Most professors seemed to stick to the course materials without opining very much. I did take a very informative course called "The Elements of Communism."
I was a Republican at the time and don't remember ever being bothered by something a professor said in class. We knew some professors to be more liberal and others more conservative but it seemed to me that none of them engaged in "indoctrination" of the kind Dinesh accuses. In fact, the professors were more interested in our own critical thinking skills.
