Lisa Cook's Documents Dismantle Mortgage Fraud Allegations

New documents obtained by Reuters reveal that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook declared her Atlanta property as a vacation home in 2021, undermining allegations of mortgage fraud that prompted President Donald Trump's attempt to dismiss her.

The claims, pushed by FHFA Director Bill Pulte, accused Cook of misrepresenting residences for loans, but experts confirm the documents contradict this narrative. As Cook fights her removal in court, the Justice Department probes without charges... X

WaPo: Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook described an Atlanta property now under intense scrutiny from the Trump administration as a vacation home or a second home in multiple documents in 2021, records show.

In a loan estimate for Cook’s Atlanta condo prepared by her lender, the home’s “property use” is described as “vacation home,” according to the document dated May 2021 and obtained by The Washington Post. And in a December 2021 form submitted to the Biden administration for her nomination to the central bank, Cook listed the Atlanta property as a second home under a question about vacation homes and other “additional” properties.

The documents, first reported by Reuters on Friday evening, appear to indicate that at least at some point before Cook closed on the loan, her lender understood the condo was not her primary residence.

Bill Pulte accused Fed Governor Lisa Cook of fraud. His relatives filed housing claims similar to hers: Reuters

Close relatives of the federal official who has accused a Federal Reserve governor of improperly claiming primary residence on two properties have declared the same status on two homes in two different states, public records show.

Mark and Julie Pulte, the father and stepmother of Bill Pulte, President Donald Trump’s appointee as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, since 2020 have claimed so-called “homestead exemptions” for residences in wealthy neighborhoods in both Michigan and Florida, according to the records. The exemption is meant to give a discount to homeowners on taxes for properties they use as their primary residence.

Local tax officials in both states told Reuters that claiming more than one home as a primary residence isn’t generally allowed in their jurisdictions and could be punishable by fines or back taxes. After Reuters contacted tax officials in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, to inquire about the dual claims, Darrin Kraatz, director of assessing, on Thursday said the township “as of today” would revoke the exemption on the Pultes’ residence there.

According to public real estate records, and a resident at the Michigan house on Thursday evening, the home was rented out by the Pultes this year, a move that also violates rules for the exemption. “Revised tax bills will be issued to the Pultes, including all applicable penalty and interest,” Kraatz said by email. He didn’t respond to a follow-up question about the value of any payment now due and Reuters couldn’t determine a precise figure for previous tax payments they have made.

3. Lisa Cook's latest filing before the court of appeals disputes the fact that there was any mortgage fraud

Judge Cobb found that there was no cause to fire Lisa Cook. trump is appealing to the DC Circuit which has set a very short time frame for briefing.

Here is Lisa Cook's filing which is a fun read.

I was pleased to see that this filing contained a footnote on the recently disclosed facts that showed that Lisa Cook did NOT commit mortgage fraud
6The complete property records reveal the opposite. See, e.g., Fed Governor Lisa Cook claimed 2nd residence as ‘vacation home,’ undercutting Trump fraud claims, Assoc. Press (Sept. 12, 2025), https://apnews.com/article/federal-reserve-lisa-cook trump-852820c83e5001ec3b6e2d14047965c9 (affirming, based on the review of bank documents, that Governor Cook designated her Atlanta property for use as a “Vacation Home”).

I have not seen the trump fling which was supposed to be flied this afternoon. I suspect that trump will object to these facts cited above.

The White House’s claim against Cook is rooted in the idea that she committed mortgage fraud, and now there’s fresh evidence to suggest she did not.

Remove Bill Pulte. Remove Donald Trump.

There’s no shortage of problems with this, but an especially important one emerged late last week. NBC News reported:

Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook declared in financial forms that her Atlanta property would be used as a ‘vacation home’ and not her primary residence, according to documents obtained by NBC News that appear to undercut the Trump administration’s allegations of mortgage fraud.

.......So, the administration is giving up? Of course not. The New York Times reported:

The Trump administration sought to convince a federal court on Sunday that President Trump possesses vast powers and ‘discretion’ to fire federal officials, as it raced to block Lisa Cook, a governor on the Federal Reserve, from participating in this week’s meeting of the central bank.

A federal district court ruled last week that Cook can only be legally ousted for cause, and the White House has failed to meet that threshold. The administration’s lawyers have appealed that ruling, insisting that Trump’s power is “unreviewable.”

The case is now pending at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, though time is of the essence. The Times’ report added, “The Trump administration has asked the appellate panel to stay that order and rule by the end of Monday, ahead of the Fed’s two-day meeting, which begins on Tuesday.”

Again, no one is even bothering with the pretense that the administration is scrambling to oust Cook because of a desperate need for swift justice related to the mortgage bureaucracy. Rather, the White House sees an opponent that it’s eager to remove from the board. Watch this space.

how she listed the property when she was soliciting estimates. Those are not legal documents. What matters is how the property was listed on the actual mortgage application.
