I highly recommend this forum. Time codes for sections below.

Wes Moore's hallmark legislation and work to expand funding for a service year after high school is something that is truly a step in the right direction. And Spencer Cox has championed a similar program in Utah. And, at least as of this forum, they are working with other governors to promote similar legislation in other states.
The entire program is worthwhile, but the section with Spencer Cox and Wes Moore (14:01 to 51:29) is a must see for anyone looking for signs of hope in a bleak political landscape.

(19,725 posts)So you aren't really defending him by posting it.
He said a scumbag thing (hoping it was an immigrant), with scumbag motivation (that the killer was other), premised on a fucking lie (specifically, "that's not who we are" is the lie).
He is a damn liar (political violence in the US is strongly disproportionately a right wing/conservative thing -- depending on the time period you select, 3/4 to 5/6 of all politicized murders), and absolutely sounded like a bigot to boot.
Since when does being tone deaf, and perhaps even ignorant, automatically equate to the worst possible evil and a zero sum denunciation as opposed to trying to find some common ground that raises better awareness?
MAGA are a cult but lets not get so Reign of Terror with our countervailing solutions and approach.

(112 posts)Finally, there is one more important reason for this veto. I must admit, I am not an expert on transgenderism. I struggle to understand so much of it and the science is conflicting. When in doubt however, I always try to err on the side of kindness, mercy and compassion. I also try to get proximate and I am learning so much from our transgender community. They are great kids who face enormous struggles. Here are the numbers that have most impacted my decision: 75,000, 4, 1, 86 and 56.
75,000 high school kids participating in high school sports in Utah.
4 transgender kids playing high school sports in Utah.
1 transgender student playing girls sports.
86% of trans youth reporting suicidality.
56% of trans youth having attempted suicide.
Four kids and only one of them playing girls sports. Thats what all of this is about. Four kids who arent dominating or winning trophies or taking scholarships.
Four kids who are just trying to find some friends and feel like they are a part of something.
Four kids trying to get through each day. Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I dont understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do.
But I want them to live. And all the research shows that even a little acceptance and connection can reduce suicidality significantly. For that reason, as much as any other, I have taken this action in the hope that we can continue to work together and find a better way.
If a veto override occurs, I hope we can work to find ways to show these four kids that we love them and they have a place in our state.

Bread and Circuses
(2,121 posts)Most of the charity and services , from food pantries to health clinics
.etc. These programs are open to everyone, but they do poke around to find out who is LDS. For example, a person will go into an office and hand over a Bishop referral
Or they may say that they learned about this from their church,
They rely on volunteers . This is a way to provide Public Money to promote their religious ideology,
The entire religion is based upon the idea that the people of the church will help one another and thus
theres no need for public funding of these services.
I apologize, but Im suspicious about this and LDS. Ive seen and heard their techniques.

(13,834 posts)I just wanted to highlight the working relationship he has built with people I admire -- people like Wes Moore.
That doesn't make him a "do no wrong saint." But it does prompt me to extend the man a bit more grace than I would for others from whom I have seen no evidence of good will.
