And, that others (not themselves) are the “misled”. And, they have no responsibility for the divisiveness happening.

I have noticed lately that right-wing people are attempting to exploit certain concepts or values they know will trigger liberals. Truth and divisiveness are good examples. It’s an old playground trick—-“we’re not telling lies, you are.” “You’re treating us like enemies instead of trying to get along”. In a way, it’s cultural gaslighting. It’s also like an emotionally abusive relationship where the offender tries to convince the victim they are really the problem.

I listened to a speaker/author recently who described our current U.S. culture as moving toward nihilism…a culture with no shared sense of objective morality or objective truth. That scared me bc nihilistic societies collapse.

What I would want to say—The “forces trying to manipulate and divide us” do not seem mysterious to me at all. It sucks that those forces are in power and people like you put them there. Nor do the forces trying to manipulate me through fake news seem mysterious. What sucks is that we can’t have objective truth when you put people in power who don’t value that.
