Mausers were not chambered in 30.06

As far as I know.

They were chambered in either 8 mm or 7 mm.

Why is FBI saying 30.06?

This has to be a modified rifle for it to be a 30.06.

Just like the alleged markings on the cartridges, starting to think nothing released by FBI under this administration can be believed.

generally referred to as 8 mm Mauser.

In WWI and early WWII the US fielded the 1903 Springfield chambered in 30-.06. It used a Mauser action, and in fact, after the war the US had to pay royalties to Mauser.

The father obviously had access to various & sundry weaponry. Unless what I saw was AI, a photo showed what appeared to be ‘components’ in his right pantleg.

Mauser-style rifles were, and still are, chambered in .30-06
. While the original German military Mausers were chambered in 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser), many others have been manufactured in or converted to .30-06 over the years.

Looked like a modern, commercial-grade Mauser, plastic stock, quality scope. 30-06 caliber a distinct possibility in such a hunting rifle.

Brain still stuck in 1917 when the originals were in the trenches.

Plenty of them still in use, in hunting camps and rifle ranges, across the country.

here in the US, particularly in the western states, for as long as I can remember. Just about everyone who makes firearms has produced rifles in .30-06 caliber. It's still very popular with hunters, and there's good reason for it. It's a very effective round and very lethal on large game from deer up to Elk and Moose.

Mauser has make rifles in that caliber for a long, long time, although their original military rifles were made for a different round.
