...no matter what leaders and prominent activists on the right say, those who are openly rallying their followers to wage war against the 'left' after the Mormon man shot one of his own family's flock have to know they're not actually physically threatened by the party that's unfailingly pushing them to control their guns and put an end to their stochastic violence as Democrats' most prominent political appeal.
I just heard Kirk's widow use the term 'martyr' as she called for what is essentially an escalated war directed exclusively against Democrats, as Trump and his ilk have been openly calling for war against Democratic pols and Democratic-led cities, exclusively, for the entirety of this repeat presidency.
It will make no difference at all to them that their plan to advantage their martyr war against Democrats with a foreign-born, dark-skinned, Democratic, or liberal assailant, was derailed by yet another disaffected young man from a republican family; this one a Mormon steeped in republican-stoked gun culture in which Trump's own rooftop shooter spend his time engaged in, simulating fantasy killings in online gun forums which allow and enable the spread of all sorts of violent political imagery and propaganda.
from Nick Suplina, senior vice president for law and policy at Everytown for Gun Safety:
Heres why that matters:
Demolition Ranch has 11M+ subscribers, many of whom are 18-24 years old. The channel hosts videos showcasing the most powerful and quietest sniper rifles, and videos exploring which bullets are capable of doing the most damage to human targets.
Demolition Ranchs owner recently created content with a GunTuber known as The AK Guy, discussing and recreating the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The AK Guys most popular video today recreates the JFK assassination using ballistic dummies.
Gun makers play up violent fantasies in order to sell more guns, with no regard for the potentially deadly consequences of doing so. These are real, sniper-themed ads from gun companies.
GunTubers echo talking points from lobbying groups like the NRA that spread dangerous conspiracies and see threats around every corner, and then demo the military-grade solutions to these perceived threats.
Young people are being exposed to toxic gun content online by GunTubers who market products for the gun industry, while leaving out the very real dangers of gun violence and providing tactical playbooks for people looking to carry out this exact kind of violence.
I get that gamers of all political stripes will come on to defend their playtime activities as benign and innocent because of the countless others who participate and don't shoot at or kill anyone.
But consider that this shooter looks to have been 'devoured by his own smart phone,' as on gamer online put it, "The shell casings are all reddit brain rot shjt posting and obscure antifa inside jokes, references to WW2 anti fascist anthems, chat memes."
That's where this shooter was likely radicalized, on internet chat rooms where the republican right works to insert their divisive rhetoric into impressionable young minds, coupled with actual targets for their followers to focus their ire against.
Is it really going to be a surprise to anyone to find that this young shooter, whose family exposed him to their republicanized gun culture from a young age, was also a victim of deliberate brainwashing from extremist conservative online chat groups that regularly allow denigration of political rivals along with their promotion of dangerous weapons and guns?
Kirk's killer used the social media platform 'Discord' to send messages about the rifle and engraved bullets, authorities said at a news conference.
It later expanded to include calling and video chats, and to allow users to show the video games they were playing and eventually allow people to play games within the platform.
But these benign uses have been overshadowed in recent years by more ominous ones. Discord offers both private and public servers, allowing users to determine their own degree of privacy.
In 2022, Payton Gendron, the man indicted in the mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, that killed 10 people, used an invitation-only Discord server to detail his plans.

There is no online, Democratic forum advocating violence in any form, shape, or function.
There are countless republican ones targeting Democratic leaders and supporters for harassment, abuse, and even death; following in the footsteps of the president occupying the White House right now who is lying about the 'left' being culpable or responsible for the death of one of his republican party's demagogic activists at the hands of one of republican's own gun-groomed flock.
Three prominent political shootings have occurred in the same political cycle; perpetrated by THREE republican-centered terrorists who rejected the Democratic targets being fed to them and chose to turn their guns against their own political family.
From what we're witnessing from maga today, they seem unable to put an end to this cycle of political recrimination and attacks from their own ranks. They have become a extremist, domestic terrorist organization, complete with threats and actual deadly violence.
Republicans are the ONLY party engaged in this stochastic terror, from their president to their legislators, right on down to their rank-and file supporters, and their people are the only ones violently threatening and killing their political rivals, even in their own party.

...why wasn't he carrying the casket of the supporter who was actually shot and killed that day by one of his own party's political family?

(23,746 posts)if the magas start killing each other. It has already started.
Plus, I think the left knows how to survive. Remember from history at least here in the USA, the right in most cases are the violent evil ones all in the name of their gawd.

(19,326 posts)of long range accuracy at distances of up to 1,000 yds are all the craze now on a lot of gun sites. No one is even pretending these tactical precision firearms are for hunting any more, it's clearly understood they're for making kill shots from extreme distances, and (obviously) escaping undetected. Gun manufacturers are always looking to expand their markets, and these precision rifles and scopes are very expensive, more profitable than AR-15s and semi-auto pistols.
