I watched a 1943 movie on TCM this past Monday entitled "Hangmen Also Die" about the assassination of one of Hitler's right hand men, Reinhard Heydrich. Hitler ordered massive retaliation for his death. AND then Charlie Kirk was killed with chillingly similar talk of retaliation. The following info is from Wikipedia.

The men and women of Ležáky were murdered, both villages were burned and the ruins of Lidice were levelled.[59][60]

1. There is a good movie on Netflix about the Heydrich assassination

I forget the title, but I think it’s a Dutch/Czech production? Anyway, it follows a detailed chronology of events leading up to the assassination, and the search for the resistance members who carried it out. Doesn’t depict the reprisals, Imthink it just mentions it at the end.

Fortunately, Trump is a weak coward, and nobody except Stephen Miller in his administration would support the type of reprisals carried out in the wake of Heydrich’s killing.

Now, if the shooter had been Iranian, or Mexican, that would be a different story- bombs would already be falling.

Of course this is what the MAGA Republicans want, it’s straight from the Fascism 101 playbook.

What I find interesting, though, is as bad as social media can be, it is also serving as a news delivery service that makes it difficult for MAGA to control the narrative. In Germany, people could only read newspapers and listen to news on maybe 2 radio stations. Today we can watch events unfold in real time, from 20 different cell phone angles, and watch their shameless lies about violent transgender people, Muslims, women, imaginary pedophiles (while supporting actual pedophiles), and most terrifying of all, “The Militant Left,” unravel in a text notification less than 5 minutes after the news hits the wires, direct from the wires, reaching millions of people immediately. They get away with this with their base in small settings where they control who enters and only speak to the faithful. It’s harder when they try to take the message national.

This in no way implies we still don’t have to fight like hell as they try to pull every trick in the book. I’m just saying, as fast as this is going down, it’s hitting some guardrails.
