Just hours before Tyler Robinson was arrested for allegedly killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the 22-year-old appeared to take responsibility for the shooting in a message to friends on the chat platform Discord, a company spokesperson confirmed to CBS News on Monday.
"Hey guys, I have bad news for you all," read a message from an account that allegedly belonged to Robinson, according to the spokesperson and a law enforcement source. "It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this."
The messages were first reported by The Washington Post.
The messages came toward the end of a nearly two-day-long manhunt after Kirk was fatally shot during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Robinson confessed to his father. Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday night, FBI Director Kash Patel said Friday.

(2,023 posts)Trump and the rest on that side automatically labelled him radical left, because it fits their agenda to crack down on all dissent.
So far, theres no indication of Robinson leaning to the left. There was some talk he was angry about the administrations attacks on trans people, but thats it, along with the inscriptions, but part of they could be just the bizarre discord video game culture he was part of.
At the same time, I have yet to see evidence he was a follower of Fuentes and his groyper faction or whatever its called. Its more likely he fits this profile, but these groups are not strictly ideological. They are however nihilistic, and basically one more indication society has raised a lot of young men very poorly, with few real marketable skills for a career, no social skills to find a significant other, raised by violent video games and surrounded by guns, and influenced by podcasters who constantly make them feel like a victim.

But that does in a way rule out any proof-positive claim that this song being on the casing indicates that he was "Antifa" since it indicates at least some Groypers (who are NOT Antifa) have claimed it as their own as well. The far right calls everyone else fascists, in a sort of "I know you are but what am I?" childish chide.

I see no connection to that game and anything anti-Fascist. The game is supposedly based on fictional island with fictional people based on the Cuban Revolution and Batista, but it's a game and who knows if the players even understand? Was Batista fascist? Was Fidel Castro antifa? I think the Groypers simple enjoy the violence of the game and do not aspire Fidel Castro's vision.
The scene with Bella Ciao is a mass shooter's wet dream.

(4,010 posts)The leader (played by the great Giancarlo Esposito) is megalomaniacal, extremely violent and oppressive, and into the drug trade, but beyond that, his "politics" are really not elucidated. IIRC the characters in the game call him a fascist, and the word communist is not mentioned. Like all Far Cry games, its settings are reminiscent of some "place", and sometimes roughly a "time", but very loosely so.
Tie-ins are it's an island (islands actually), a fair bit of the music has I guess what you could call a Cuban style, it's a sub-tropical island, it's a revolution vs. an evil dictator, the characters speak with Spanish accents (the voice acting is actually great, everyone sounds legit), and some characters want to take boats to America to escape the dictator. But it's definitely not a re-enactment of the Cuban revolution, people in game have cell phones and much more modern weaponry, and there's zero tie-ins to the outside world/historic events other than that America exists to be escaped to by boat.
The people being killed by the protagonist in that sequence are the dictators minions, and it's in one of his drug-producing fields, which produce a lot of environmental degradation and poison the communities nearby with toxic run-off. It's really not a "mass shooting" type scenario

(4,010 posts)Discord servers can be set up by anyone with any name/topic, its not like DU where they have a set of fixed titles/purposes. I would imagine that every other person (at least, that can be identified) in the group either has been, or will be questioned, and all the past conversations reviewed by the FBI.
Of course that doesn't mean we'll get an honest accounting of what they found, not with this FBI.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
