No Heroes Here

Luigi Mangione is no damn hero of mine. Neither is Tyler Robinson. Both are murderous idiots who deserve the fullest extent of the law against them.

That said, I will not mourn their targets. Nor will I refrain from telling the truth about them; their associations, words, and deeds during their lifetime.

My dear old Mom told me, "Your heaven or hell is how people remember you."

I believe that's true. When a person leaves this mortal coil, their legacy is how they're remembered. Their words, actions, and deeds. This legacy isn't something someone else did/is doing to them after they're gone. They did it to themselves when they lived.

Advocating violence against others for their deaths, as an opportunity to do violence against an opposition (political or otherwise), does no good and only permits further violence.

And before someone brings this up, learning from the past, distant or recent (slavery or the holocaust, for instance), is not targeting anyone. We remember and teach about these atrocities for the future, so that they are not repeated.

One response is based on hate. The other is based on love.

Using Kirk's (or anyone's) death to justify increasing violence against their political opponents is MAGA.

Refusing to bury past atrocities (and more recent historical ones) and advocating teaching and learning about them in the present is what Democrats do and believe in.

This is just one reason among many that I'm a Democrat. I don't know if there was ever decency in the Republican Party. If there never really was, maybe they just hid that fact very well until the past decade or so. But today, there is not one shred of decency left among them if there ever was.

For decency, humanity, care, conscience, striving to be better humans, and planning for the future, we look to Democrats.

For ruthless snatching of power, stoking of anger, hate, and violence, sadism justified by propaganda, lies, and radical religious interpretation, we see Republicans, now "MAGA".

There are no heroes. But I know where I stand.

Fewer still celebrated his death. And even fewer yet remember him at all. I'm guessing Chuck's legacy will be as such.

For years, unstable nations have faced right-wing violence against radical clerics to the point where it became a running joke to many Americans... until, of course, the story is about America itself.

No one except profiteers are happy about any of this. Some may feel objectively safer to a degree, but I doubt happy or celebratory are accurate words.
