The U.N.

I don't know much about this. There's a call here on DU for people to only post stuff supported by links. I'm not following that. Here is just a tidbit of some info that I ran across some time ago.

Obama signed an authorization--an MOU, or something from the UN--that authorizes the UN to enter the US legally and intervene in fighting (major, hot fighting) if need be. This sign on was delayed, but Obama did it finally.

We all have seen that the UN is largely ineffective in mustering troops to help anybody. Still, they do show up here and there. I think they were in Gaza. These are the troops that wear powder blue helmets when they are geared up. They come from different countries. I don't know where the US stands in supplying troops, but I find it interesting and somewhat comforting that Obama signed that. There's always hope somewhere. The UN could muscle up in our favor.

1. That sounds not very not true. Or is at least a deep misunderstanding of whatever actually happened.

2. That is exactly the kind of thing that needs some evidence, not just "I ran across it"

Your memory of it (from 10 or 15 years ago) could be faulty, or the person who told you.

It sounds, frankly, completely made up.

Obama would have been impeached for that after the republicans took over in 2010. This sounds like an absurd conspiracy theory I floated by the right.

I think your memory is faulty and unless you can find something to back this up, I’d delete the post.

Quick Ai overview:
“The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and has not ratified the Rome Statute, which established the court. While the U.S. played a significant role in the statute's creation, it has consistently opposed the ICC's jurisdiction, particularly fearing political use of the court against its citizens. The U.S. has sometimes imposed sanctions on the ICC and has actively sought to limit its actions, particularly when they involve U.S. nationals or allies.
Key Points
No Membership:
The U.S. is not a state party to the Rome Statute and therefore not a member of the ICC.
Historical Opposition:
The U.S. voted against the Rome Statute in 1998 and effectively withdrew its support under President George W. Bush in 2002.
Fear of Political Motivation:
A primary concern is that the ICC could be used for politically motivated prosecutions against U.S. military personnel or officials.
Sanctions:
The U.S. has imposed sanctions on the ICC, for example, in 2025 and 2020, to counter investigations it opposes, according to the White House.
Deterrent Effect:
The U.S. aims to ensure its citizens and personnel are not subject to the ICC's jurisdiction, even if they operate in countries that are members of the court. “

5. It doesn't matter

I posted that info about the ICC because that is probably the closest thing in terms of “UN intervention”, and that was also rejected by the US, partly for infringing on national sovereignty.

No president of either party would allow the UN to intervene in US domestic affairs.

Please find evidence, or I urge you to delete the post.
