A nurse ratted him out on social media. Let me see. A man whos saved actual lives is hounded out of a job because he said mean things about a man who said gun rights were worth a few people getting killed. How does this make sense?

(2,795 posts)these nutjobs have held car cruises, prayer events, and general gatherings in memory of this grifting POS. These KKK types without hoods, robes, or cross burnings plan yet another cruise in a few days PLUS one on Kirk's birthday next month.
That is batshittery. Some of the people participating in this garbage I personally know. It is outrageous and an embarrassment.

(2,047 posts)Apparently its totally cool now to fire people for not being sufficiently sad about Kirk and youre claiming free speech is not under threat?
You do realize this isnt the first incident, right?
Greg_In_SF
(1,312 posts)this is not the first incident and it probably won't be the last.
Here's the deal, you a free to say anything you want at any time. However, you are not immune from the consequences by claiming "free speech". That is the distinction.

(2,101 posts)From what I'm reading about this story, the doctor made this comment in a private setting and apologized when the nurse in question was offended. If the nurse had complained to HR and kept it all in-house, that's one thing. However, she chose to share this on social media, including the hospital's name and the doctor's name.
THAT should have been a fireable offense, too. I work for a fairly large hospital chain, and we have to take a "Code of Conduct" course every year. Posting things on social media that reference staff and the hospital by name is cause for discipline or even firing.
If the doctor faced "consequences", the nurse should have as well.
Greg_In_SF
(1,312 posts)Just that this is in no way a 1st amendment or free speech issue. That's all.

(2,101 posts)Sorry, didn't mean to imply anything else, was agreeing with your take on consequences, but was shocked that the nurse wasn't let go as well.
We've been getting slammed by our leadership with reminders about social media after a medical worker posted pictures of the entire staff making fun of human secretions left on exam tables (such as would happen with a pap smear).
To read that the nurse posted about the incident on social media, before any investigation was completed, just blows my mind that she wasn't fired.

(4,781 posts)surely you can see the writing on the wall. The surgeon has the right to appeal the firing and insist on being reinstated with repayment of any losses he had. Would you feel the same if he were fired because he prefers blue rather than green paint for the walls?

???
ETA: "Forced to resign" is a kind way of saying "fired."
I was forced to resign from a government position because of differences of opinion regarding an ethical issue. I refused to do what was asked of me..
I was given a less controversial position because they didn't want me to open my mouth if I were actually fired.

(134 posts)Most of this is happening because everyone is afraid of reprisals from the administration. I mean the justice department is looking into an office depot because someone refused to print flyers for a charlie kirk memorial.
Self deleted, I posted in the wrong place.
Greg_In_SF
(1,312 posts)this is not a free speech issue. Period.
I think I posted in the wrong place.

(28,299 posts)when you have government officials actively promoting and participating in campaigns to get people fired for speech, which they are, then it definitely is a 1st Amendment issue.

because she was placed on unpaid suspension after she reported him and posted online about it.
Asshole move to report him and post about it, but also asshole move to suspend her for it.

(5,262 posts)For that hospital? Many frown on posts naming the hospital and coworkers.
So, maybe rein in your horses. Until you know facts.
I hope she gets it thrown out.
Too bad she didn't lose her job.

(8,710 posts)So Im guessing shell drop the lawsuit.
And yes, they may well have a policy about social media, just as they may well have a political conversations around patients.
If the doctor felt he was as in the right, he shouldnt have resigned and if fired, he could have fought it .

Kirk made a living saying much worse things about people. Much worse.

(12,581 posts)Hospital says she was never fired and never suspended. She went online and blasted it out to the world. She wanted her 15 minutes of fame, and now a highly trained surgeon is gone.
Englewood Health disputed Kuenzles claim that hospital administrators told her she would be dismissed for voicing her displeasure to human resources and on her personal Instagram page.
The nurse was never fired, was never told she would be fired by Englewood Hospital, and will not miss any pay as part of our review of this matter, the hospital said in its statement.
