Kudos to them, i guess, for being in like the 2% of people in that particular demographic who would have seamlessly accepted him enough to sit down at dinner together. Seems to me about 98% of the time, the GOP family rejects and disowns their own kids when that kind of thing happens, at least for a while.
Remarkable that the son kept it from his other friends but not from his parents
Usually the parents are the last to know, in those right-wing households.
Too bad they werent better parents, though. Somehow he was soooo susceptible that he decided to become a trans-loving gay liberal in a brief amount of time, and all of that gun practice he had at the hands of his MAGA parents went to waste.
Poof! The Groypers are barely a whisper of a memory
We may never know the truth about any of this.
But regardless of whether he turned liberal DAMN! How POWERFUL that must be! arent his parents still to blame? I mean, if they were liberals and their offspring had become a liberal-hating conservative and had gone and shot someone, wed be hearing all about their bad parenting.

(7,591 posts)Many of us are born into, um, difficult situations. Hat tip to those who can get past differences, since that's basic human nature, and accept others for who they are.
magas casting stones all over the place at people are basically dissing Jesus and his teachings. Why do republicons turn their backs on the teachings of Jesus, and then claim they are 'christians.'
That fake stuff don't work on The Other Side.

(114,376 posts)While so many are lauding this father for turning his son in (and I get that at face value), I'm likewise pretty well versed in that which is "conscious" versus "non-conscious" or "subconscious..." So, perhaps this father and mother were the exceptional ones- parents who were fully understanding of their son's decisions and choices, including clear political differences, or maybe they were not. I suspect more will be revealed in months/years to come, but I will continue to take nothing about this story at face value.
A lot of lives destroyed, that is my sole conclusion...

(3,897 posts)But as I said, the song Bella Ciao being printed on a bullet casing, while also being on the Groyper Wars (America First) playlist, along with the fact that the Groypers feud with Kirk was very public means that it's really not all that baseless of a supposition.
Furthermore there are gay people who gravitate to far-right ideology. The idea that every gay person is liberal is nonsense. I've personally know a gay MAGAt. Nor is being transsexual synonymous with "liberal", just ask Catelyn Jenner.
The traits of "gay/trans" and "liberal" being 1:1 with each other is exactly the spin the other side wants to convey. And we aren't necessarily going to know the kids true motives ever, let alone now. This kids only chance to avoid death (and to give his family some peace) is to plead "corrupted by the Left", and right-wingers are in charge of all the facts we're going to hear. I'm just saying

(3,897 posts)The only succor and respite they get will come in the form of pinning the kid as a having been corrupted by the left, their POTUS has made his declaration about it, plus they're righties themselves. Also, the families could have no idea if he were or were not a Groyper. Which would not make them compromised, just unknowing. So yes, I do not consider the possibility he was influenced by Groypers/Fuentes to be "debunked" at this point, for the reasons I've stated. Is it the most likely possibility? I'd stipulate probably not, assuming all we're being told is true.

Groypers (largely identified with Fuentes these days) chose a Spanish Civil War freedom fighters anthem for a playlist because they know progressives (antifa included) would be confused.
That the groypers thing was "made up" is news to me, but I don't go down every rabbit hole. Any commentary / reporting on that?
Assuming it was made up, did groypers inject a false narrative into social media to hijack the discussion and get some attention, only to be able to distance themselves at the end and say "it was all made up to smear our group"?
Or did Kirk followers rekindle the "groyper war of 2019" with allegations against Fuentes group which started the heckling campaign in 2019?
Or something else?

(3,897 posts)THEY think WE are the fascists. You think they embrace being called that, even if that is what they basically are? Hell no they don't, they say "I know you are but what am I". They also believe the Nazi's were far left because "Socialist" is in the words underpinning Nazi ffs.
Also I thought it was an Anti-Mussolini song, not Spanish freedom fighters
Bernardo de La Paz
(60,320 posts)1. Yes, they think the left is a communist dictatorship.
2. Yes, they think Nazis were "far left" because of the "Socialist" in their name. It is true they were fiscally liberal, but maga conveniently forgets that the key point of fascism is the totalitarianism. There are totalitarians of the "left" and the "right". They only see totalitarianism on the left. When the right crushes rights of non-whites and non-cis-males, they see it as natural and are blind to how it breaks the rule of law and is the tyranny they warned everyone about for decades.
Technically, fascism is the forced alignment of corporate functioning with national government interests. This is what we see now, with law firms, media companies, chip companies, etc. capitulating to tRump's pressure.

(60,320 posts)I could easily be mistaken, but as I understand it, Robinson's partner was a man, was becoming a woman, so the modern progressive practice is to refer to his partner as a "woman", the destination gender, not the prior gender.
If a man loves a person who has become a woman, is that "gay" by reference to the prior gender, not the chosen gender? Is that another instance of misgendering?
I may have facts, mores, and etiquette wrong and as always would be grateful for having any misapprehensions corrected.
AZJonnie
(3,897 posts)As for whether "man" or "woman" applies, certainly woman applies if the person is transitioned or at least well-along in that. But I don't think any of us know yet on that account. If as far as the person had gotten was "talking about it", but was in no tangible way living as a woman, I'm not sure what's "correct" to say
meadowlander
(5,145 posts)Not all trans people transition for a variety of reasons. They should be referred to by their identified gender when they identify themselves as that gender and ask to be referred that way.
AZJonnie
(3,897 posts)The only operative word here is "transitioning" and if that's all you have, the exact proper term is perhaps ambiguous.
I'm trying to convey that I don't think the OP meant anything offensive is all, and nor do I

(3,897 posts)I suppose there could be some ambiguity, esp. if in the very early phases of transition. Perhaps if it's very early, "transgender person" could be considered most accurate?
In any case I don't think the OP is meaning to be offensive in their choice of terms, that's what really matters
