The new threat from a man Trump fell in love with has hiring managers worried

North Korean government agents have infiltrated more than 320 companies in the last 12 months — helped by generative AI tools at every stage of the hiring process.

The striking assertion, made by cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike in its annual report this summer, stressed how bad actors have harnessed artificial-intelligence tools to help craft new cyberattacks and to gain entry into companies by generating fake identifies, masking their true identifies during video interviews, and drafting resumes and cover letters in more-convincing English. Once employed, these operatives can steal credentials, deploy malware and snag trade secrets.

And while these attacks have grown 220% over the past year, they are only going to get worse and more numerous, Crowdstrike said.

“Threat actors of all motivations and skill levels will almost certainly increase their use of GenAI tools for social engineering in the near- to mid-term, particularly as these tools become more available, user-friendly and sophisticated,” Crowdstrike said.
