Say something wrong about the right people, boom, your social.credit score gets dinged. Say something right about the wrong people, your social. credit score gets dinged. Speak the truth, denounce a lie, all gets your score lowered. Your score gets dinged enough, you don't get the job you want(or a job at all). You aren't getting to live in the neighborhood you want, your drivers license is revoked, etc. etc.
With all these people who've been doxxed, fired, etc for celebrating Kirk's death, or for simply speaking the truth, somehow I don't think this is a far fetched prediction.

(1,241 posts)We use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc and its unofficial. Post whats popular you have good credit. Post something unpopular you get nailed. Past posts can and will be held against you. Companies, government, and people in general use it and judge you by it, and it can get or lose you jobs, friends and opportunities. China is just honest about using it.

What we post here and elsewhere occurs n the real world, too. It has impact and meaning and exists. We toss in video from our cell phones, emails and anything else we can find in the mix. It doesnt occur in vacuum. The Chinese version is just official. People lose or gain jobs, hurt or help themselves or others, and make choices based on it all - same end result.
Just my 2 cents. Its been a thing here in some form for a decade at least.

(20,065 posts)A recent example would be the Hollywood Blacklist during McCarthyism, where suspected communists and sympathizers were systematically excluded from jobs and other benefits, even jailed. Over the years POC, gays, immigrants, women, the handicapped, Jews, non-christians and many "others" have all been blacklisted in American society, and treated differently under the law. Now Republicans want to bring back the worst of blacklisting.
