September 17th is Constitution Day.
In honor of Constitution Day, I would like to remind Congress that they are Article 1 of the Constitution.
I would like to remind Congress of the powers granted them in Article 1. These include, but are not limited to: the power of the purse - appropriations and spending; taxing power - that includes tariffs; war powers. I highlighted these specific powers because those powers have been hijacked by the Executive branch.
I would like to call out the Republican Representatives in Congress for permitting the Executive branch to hijack important powers specifically given to Congress in Article 1.
The Constitution gave us Separation of Powers for a reason.
I am reminding Republican members in Congress that they took an oath to the Constitution.
We are watching the current "take over" in DC shred the Constitution, which is the bedrock of our Democracy. I cherish our Democracy, as imperfect as it is.
As we resist the assault on our Democracy and our Constitution, I cherish our Constitution today and every day.
