from reciever is a much more difficult job, but doubt he did that.

Heck, I'm not even a gun nut or ammosexual, but I know that.

Which is likely true as they are reporting it was chambered in .308 as well. The original caliber of a mauser is 8mm. When surplus guns are sporterized, the barrels are commonly shortened and the stocks changed out. In this case, if it was chambered in 308, then the barrel was entirely swapped out. So basing anything on an untouched mausers 45" length is questionable.
