Billionaire GOP Donor Peter Thiel Blames Christianity for 'Wokeness' (Gil Duran just posted about this 2024 article)

Billionaire Trump Donor/Antichrist expert Peter Thiel Blames Christianity for “Wokeness”:

“Maybe you should think of wokeness as ultra-Christianity or hyper-Christianity.”

“It always takes the side of the the victim.”

Um, is this pro or anti Christ?

Billionaire GOP Donor Peter Thiel Blames Christianity for ‘Wokeness’: ‘It Always Takes the Side of the Victim’

In a discussion on the TRIGGERnometry YouTube channel, one of Thiel’s interlocutors mused that wokeness “started at the universities” before ending up all over social media and into the broader culture.

“Yeah, but I still think that was not, again we can — it’s very hard to know these cultural arguments,” replied Thiel. “I don’t know, I’d be open to a sort of a religious interpretation.”

“That it is Christianity, the, you know, the main religion of the Western world. You know, it always takes the side of the victim and there’s something where it is like some kind of deformation or intensification,” argued Thiel. “And maybe you should think of wokeness as ultra-Christianity or hyper-Christianity.”

He continued:
It’s just like an extreme intensification and, you know, it’s maybe there’s no forgiveness and so it’s sort of, it’s you still have original sin and you have all these bad things that happened in the past. The past is terrible and you can never overcome it. But there’s surely a religious interpretation of this is sort of, you know, what happened is, has let’s say the church lost a certain amount of authority, but people didn’t become, you know, rationalist, atheist people. They went into the sort of woke religion, which, you know, has been, which I would interpret as, you know, a certain, you know, extreme form of Christianity.

This is especially interesting in light of Thiel's obsession with the Antichrist

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220613293

and RW hypocrisy in general with claims to be Christian. Thiel's actually correct here that core Christian teachings ARE woke, when properly understood (see what Fugelsang and Pavlovitz have said).

Curious to see if Duran might do another article on this, ideally for The New Republic...

EDITING because he just did another TNR article, and posted it as a late reply to the Bluesky message I linked to above, which had been the only message in the thread when I spotted it and wrote the OP above. But it doesn't include anything about Thiel blaming Christianity for wokeness, so maybe there'll soon be another article on that.

Today's article at TNR:

https://newrepublic.com/article/200471/peter-thiel-obsession-antichrist-religion

In yet another troubling sign of these times, Peter Thiel can’t stop talking up the Antichrist. This month, the tech billionaire is delivering a four-part, closed-door lecture on the topic, which he is framing as “political theology,” in San Francisco. It’s part of what you might call an “Antichrist World Tour” by the PayPal and Palantir co-founder, who has already given off-the-record Antichrist lectures at Oxford, Harvard, and Bari Weiss’s ersatz college, the University of Austin.

-snip-

Thiel’s Antichrist fixation fits a long tradition in American politics. Since the nation’s founding, Americans have sought to name the Antichrist—usually by pointing the finger at their political enemies. “The symbol of the Antichrist has played a surprisingly significant role in shaping Americans’ self-understanding,” wrote historian Robert Fuller in 1995’s Naming the Antichrist: The History of an American Obsession. “Because they tend to view their nation as uniquely blessed by God, they have been especially prone to demonize their enemies.”

-snip-

Yet his approach has major flaws. For example, Thiel claims the Antichrist will be someone focused on existential threats and apocalypse, and who will usher in a totalitarian world government under the slogan of “peace and safety.” But Thiel’s Antichrist checklist—a paranoid obsession with apocalypse, control, and surveillance—describes Thiel himself.

-snip-

These rehashed Satanic panic tactics must be exposed for what they are: a cynical ploy to further inflame political divisions. It also seems like an awkward effort to cement an alliance with religious nationalists in the Republican Party, who also use apocalyptic language to frame their political goals. Journalist Matthew D’Ancona described Thiel’s Antichrist theories as a “highbrow version of MAGA End-Times theology.”

Read the Beatitudes, the very words from Jesus' most famous sermon, and tell me Jesus was not "woke".

Christianity was not hijacked by "woke" radicals.

It was hijacked by opportunists, conmen, the power hungry, the worshippers of Mammon and idolatry.

'Reboot' Revealed: Elon Musk's CEO-Dictator Playbook [2]

In 2022, one of Peter Thiel's favorite thinkers envisioned a second Trump Administration in which the federal government would be run by a “CEO”

Gil Duran

The Point: In 2022, one of Peter Thiel's favorite thinkers envisioned a second Trump Administration in which the federal government would be run by a “CEO” who was not Trump and laid out a playbook for how it might work. Elon Musk is following it.

The Back Story: In 2012, Curtis Yarvin — Peter Thiel’s “house philosopher”—called for something he dubbed RAGE: Retire All Government Employees. The idea: Take over the United States government and gut the federal bureaucracy. Then, replace civil servants with political loyalists who would answer to a CEO-type leader Yarvin likened to a dictator.

“If Americans want to change their government, they’re going to have to get over their dictator phobia,” he said. Yarvin, a software programmer, framed this as a “reboot” of government.

Elon Musk’s DOGE is just a rebranded version of RAGE. He demands mass resignations, locks career employees out of their offices, threatens to delete entire departments, and seizes total control of sensitive government systems and programs. DOGE = RAGE, masked in the bland language of “efficiency.”
