Just a thought about how to reign in "Artificial Intelligence"

Artificial Intelligence can do a lot of good, but it’s being used to falsely divide and manipulate us too.

What would be wrong with making a law that any “AI” videos, pics, writing, etc., must be visibly marked as such? 🤔

My money says that a simple suggestion like this would be an easily understood issue to run on too. (A consensus builder, of sorts)

Just a thought.

1. +1. Marking them prominently sure seems a simple solution to the biggest problem. It won't stop some rogue

No law, no matter how well worded will stop everyone. But we have to start somewhere.

I really believe that if politician started promoting that idea, they would get a lot of attention from both sides.

Create universal basic income for people who are displaced from the labor market. Or construct massive amounts of public housing.

4. If you'd been following AI news, you'd know that this has been among many suggestions for years for reining in

AI.

The main problem is that the AI bros are opposed to regulation and have the money to buy political power. You saw them line up to support Trump and oppose regulation.

Another problem is that there are currently no reliable tech means to mark what's AI-generated as such. Especially text.

A third problem is that AI companies that have considered trying to create a way of marking AI slop (it's all slop) have been told by the majority of their users - their customers - that the users do NOT want what's AI-generated marked as such.

And a fourth - and possibly most important - problem is that ANYONE considering generative AI's theft of the world's intellectual property, and use for all types of fraud, as AT ALL ACCEPTABLE is giving a thumbs-up to that theft and fraud. As well as a thumbs-up to the environmental damage, the dumbing down of users, and the other harms resulting from the most harmful non-weapon tech ever.

Marking some of the AI slop, in what would be a constant war against those finding ways to remove the markings, would be only a partial temporary solution to a fundamentally unethical and harmful tech.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

My only response would be, if we put enough teeth in it, maybe it would work. Who cares what the AI creators think? They are out of control. They are definitely not a majority. There is too much at stake here.
