OMFG.
Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Calif., asked Patel if he disputed that white supremacist Dylann Roof had carried out the horrific mass murder.
To which Patel replied, Im sorry, Dylan Ruth?
Roof, Kamlager-Dove repeated.
Roof? Can you give me some more information? Patel asked.
Youre head of the FBI, you probably know this. If you dont know, that's fine, she said.
You can give me a reminder. Ive got a lot in front of me, Patel said.
It was national news, she said. From there, Kamlager-Dove went on to list several other incidents of political violence perpetrated by right-wing extremists.
Asked whether he admitted or denied these incidents took place, Patel said, Ill take your presentation as accurate.

It was a lot easier doing podcasts out of your basement wasn't it Cash?
But then the pay's a lot better now.

(4,064 posts)he reminded us of how meticulous all past FBI directors have been, down to how they tied their ties. He was noting that Patel's tie was shabbily knotted in yesterday's Senate hearings. Those men also came with criminal justice backgrounds which Patel has none. There's no way that question would have tripped up any of Patel's predecessors. We are in a heap of trouble.
Full disclosure, I went through my mental Rolodex to recall exactly who Roof was. We've been through a few years of right-wing domestic terrorism, but I got there after a few seconds.
Side note: FBI director at the time James Comey declined to label Roof's attack as an act of terror. Still shaking my head.

(3,662 posts)He was a public defender and then prosecutor for a total of 12 years. But, he was never a sworn officer or investigator for any law enforcement entity that I've found. Someone correct me if this isn't the case.
He also lacks character and fitness to be an FBI agent, much less FBI director. He also lacks curiosity and is devoid of any FBI-relevant historic or institutional knowledge of well-known cases that have shaped FBI operating concepts and principles.
He probably has the word "unqualified" tattooed to his ass.
