(13,828 posts)53 Republicans
45 Democrats
2 Independents (Angus King and Berne Sanders)
So, the Republicans currently have Fetterman on board to kick the can down the line to Nov 21. That means they definitely have 54 votes for cloture/ending debate (with Fetterman as defector). If you assume Angus King is likely to vote for the CR to Nov 21 and Bernie is likely to vote against, it's 55 to 45. That means they need FIVE more defectors from the Democrats to end debate and kick the can down the road to Nov 21 (or whatever other bullshit, no concessions, CR they propose).
Democrats MUST stay united in saying NO to the CR. I do not see what they could possibly gain by kicking the can down the road to Nov 21 -- as we head into holidays and fewer people will have the bandwidth to keep the pressure on.
Now is the time for a showdown, and I hope we don't lose any other Democrat.
If you have a Democratic Senator(s), make it crystal clear with a daily calls that they must say NO to the HORRIBLE Republican CR. NOW is the time to claw back critical 47 regime unconstitutional cancellations and the cuts to healthcare in the MAGA Murder Budget. Tell them this massive transfer of wealth to people whose wealth is already so massive is immoral, intolerable, and endangers the American Experiment. Let your Democratic Senators know what your RED LINES are.
And if you have a Trumpublican Senator(s), they need to hear from you too. Let them know that you absolutely object to the cuts in the very, very UGLY "Beautiful Bill." Right now, they have the chance to reverse the DEEPLY UNPOPULAR cuts to Medicaid (and they are cuts, however many times they claim the cuts are somehow "not cuts" ); they have a chance to reverse the Budget Busting Windfall to the top 1 percent, an immoral, Un-American, and unbelievable 992 billion over 10 years. (A windfall estimated to put an average of $62,000 per year in the pockets of the the top 1% -- approx. 1.6 million people -- each year for ten years.) A windfall for people who have more money in their pockets RIGHT NOW than the average American spends in decades -- and for some, more than the average American would spend in 5000 years.
They MUST stay united in saying NO to any Republican proposal that does NOT reverse the worst of the budget passed in July.
