Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Kimmel lawsuit is gonna be EPIC.
What do you want to bet the top constitutional lawyers in America are lined up outside his door this minute, begging to be on the team?
The list of defendants is gonna read like a Who's Who of media shitweasels, topped by the Conspirator-in-Chief who publicly stated Kimmel "would be next" after Colbert was cancelled.
Patience, friends.
Lawsuits like this do not happen overnight. This one will be airtight, watertight, and nuclear-powered, and that takes time to assemble.
The goal:
Make the Supreme Court choose between the Constitutional and Judicial oaths they took, and the taste of fascist butthole.
Oh, yes.
Everyone at Nexstar, Disney, and ABC, from Perry Sook down to the newly-hired MAGAt front desk intern, is gonna be dragged for every dime.
But, like I say: PATIENCE, people.
This one won't get filed by noon tomorrow. It's going to be carefully crafted.
Pop the popcorn, this will be a long-running hit series.

(2,174 posts)The First Amendment has nothing to say about the relationship between private companies and their employees. An employee has no first amendment right to maintain a job if the company doesn't like his speech.
The 1st is there to prevent THE GOVERNMENT from denying speech in the public space. It could be argued that Trump did exactly that by bullying ABC. But I believe ABC would have t bring that action, not Kimmel. And obviously, ABC is more interested in sucking up to Trump.
So it would probably be more productive to try to get the sane world to boycott ABC from every angle. This has had a large impact on Tesla's business results, although Musk is still running his stock fraud machine full blast. I think an organized effort against ABC and its related properties could land some blows.
And America needs to re-think its relationship with the late night hosts. Obviously they have had a powerful voice and that is why Trump is trying to pick them off one by one. Fallon is the most prominent one remaining, but he is a wimp, with no interest in doing anything more than an hour of fake adoration for celebs seeking publicity. That's all he does. His show has always been a waste of time for anybody expecting some social conscience from the late night hosts. We should pressure NBC to show solidarity with the other networks to put ALL of these programs back on the air.

(4,884 posts)ambitions, standing up for the Constitution is in short supply.
That should have been clear after his attempt to over throw the government on January 6, and his subsequent election win in November. The fact that he won the election after what he did, demonstrates what a cesspool our country has become.

(12,249 posts)"The Hobbs Act covers extortionate threats of physical, economic and informational harm (i.e. blackmail). To be "wrongful," a threat of physical violence must instill some degree of duress in the target of the extortion.[4] Furthermore, it is unlikely an economic threat is "wrongful" for Hobbs Act purposes unless a defendant purports to have the power to harm another person economically and that person believes the defendant will use that power to deprive him of something to which he is legally entitled"

(1,029 posts)to force a network to keep a show on the air. It's not like networks have never cancelled shows for non-business reasons - shows have been cancelled due to the show or star becoming too controversial and for entirely petty reasons like a network executive simply disliking a star or producer.
