Does DU have a Facebook page?

If, for some reasons, it is no longer possible to sign on to DU, could people check in there?

The rate things are going, DU could be a target, in my opinion.

It would be a way to continue communicating.

I no longer believe that it couldn't happen.

If DU were shut down for some reason, migrating to the platform of a rump sycophant seems like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Can’t be very ‘underground’ on that wretched site.

4. I was thinking of a "temorary" alternative if you were unable to sign on?

It may be closer than we think?

but I’m sure there is at least one Reddit group. There may be a presence on Bluesky as well, don’t know. I do know that FuckFace is the last place I’d pop up.

2. I don't think Facebook is a safe alternative

If DU gets taken down for good, Zuckerberg could easily be persuaded to purge all democratic group pages from Facebook. He's shown himself to be a sycophant, like most of the major tech billionaires.

We'd need to find an independent alternative site, maybe on that's foreign hosted and less likely to be subject to Trump's whims.

5. I believe for a brief time during the 2020? Election DU was not

accessible. There was talk that it had been deliberately taken down by the Trump administration? Not sure this was ever proven could have just been chatter. There was a FB page at that time where we could get updates.

My memory is not what it used to be. So forgive me if that’s not completely accurate.

I have since deleted my FB account.

7. Yes - Facebook has a Democratic Underground page. There are also many other Democratic candidates and participants there

I also follow Michigan State representative Mai Xiong on Facebook. She is a Hmong member of the State Legislature who is a target of right wing hate and fear. Her words are like what you wish every heartfelt Democrat would be saying. Her frequently–posted videos are a hoot. If you understand “Democratic Bench,“ Mai Xiong is a perfect example. She needs our support. Just search for Mai Xiong in Facebook’s search window.

I welcome any odious criticism that may come my way for my helpful comments..

8. On BlueSky, I use the same name as I use on DU

Registering on BlueSky with you DU name would serve 2 purposes, in my opinion:
1) Prevents someone else from registering your name and impersonating you, giving you a cyber black eye, so to speak
2) If most of us use our DU names on other platforms, are are guarded about how much personal info we post, as opposed to what people due on FB, we might be able to 'find' one another there. We can create lists there, follow, create safe ways to stay in touch. It would take some time to hunt other DUers down, but many people create lists of suggested BlueSky accounts to follow. There is no reason I can see that would prevent us from doing that in order to 'stay in touch' and continue our work of sharing important news finds and discussions.

Just a suggestion from attilatheblond here, there, and everywhere
