Someone else compared the news regarding Kimmel yesterday to when Tom Hanks got Covid during the pandemic.

And it was the exact same thing I was thinking.

Basically, we already had a sense of dread that things were going to get real bad real soon, but we had this denial mechanism going for a while basically as a sanity tool.

Then some specific event brings home the reality of the situation, that it's going to get far worse before it gets better.

With the lurking Covid pandemic, it was learning that Tom Hanks was one of the first notable people to get Covid.

This is that same sense of awakening to the reality that we now face.

optimistic on the 'better' part
