NJ-GOV: Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Election as New Jersey's Next Governor
BRIDGETON, N.J. The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill for election as New Jerseys next governor. The statewide election is Nov. 4.
Sherrill was first elected to Congress in November 2018, representing New Jerseys 11th Congressional District, and has been reelected to the seat in each of the past three elections.
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994 among the first class of women eligible for combat roles on ships and aircraft, Sherrill spent nearly 10 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy before earning a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007. She was an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey from 2015 to 2016 before running for Congress.
During her time in Congress, Rep. Sherrill has earned a 100 percent lifetime voting record from AFGE and the AFL-CIO on issues critical to union members and working families, AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez said. As New Jerseys next governor, Mikie Sherrill will fight to protect our social safety net programs like Social Security and Medicare and defend working peoples right to form and join a union.
