Wow, how different it is in other countries

Of course in many countries bike riding is actual transportation for most not just a few as it is here.

Bikes are especially emphasized in the Netherlands, and their infrastructure encourages that. Very highplainsdem Sep 2025 #6

Doesn't need any special roadway modifications.

Isn't as dangerous as that gadget looks.

Works on any road as well as, grass, dirt, sidewalks for when you have to avoid cars.

Works when you are tired so you can ride as far as your legs will push you and still get back home.

Wonderful when your outgoing trip is mostly easy downhill then you realize how much of an effort it takes to go back.

Superb when you have to stop for traffic, then quickly accelerate to cross before the nutcase drivers try to earn another "no-bikes" sticker for their Pickup or zip-code-sized monster Suburban.

Allows us oldies who haven't ridden a bike in 50+ years to slowly build up our leg muscles to reduce the electric assist we need and regain a healthier lifestyle.

The only sad thing is seeing young people who are healthy enough to exercise, using electric bikes instead of pedals. I even saw them in Holland, formally the home of healthy young adults who rode pedal bikes instead of driving.

Around here, most curbs/shoulders are filled with loose stones, leaf/grass clippings blown in by landscape crews, garbage, pieces of cars, etc.

Looks like a neat device, but like you said, would never last in the US.

well-planned country. Of course they're dealing with shorter travel distances for most commuting, and flat terrain.
