Price gouging in the UK (energy bills)

- at least £70.7bn in dividend payouts between 2010 and 2025, rather than reinvesting that money or reducing bills.

Wait, wait. It almost sounds like this story is saying that "profits" are extracted from what customers "pay"?!? AZJonnie Sep 2025 #1

Which leads me to wonder, and bear with me on this, what would happen if the same "product" were made by an entity who did NOT extract profits from what the customers pay? Like I don't know, maybe some kind of "government agency", that extracts only the costs for creating the product?

I wonder if, just maybe, the customers would then end up paying LESS for the product?

Oh, what am I saying, that's crazy talk. Everyone knows that paying out "profits" has the magical effect of making "things" cheaper for the consumer! Just ask the people who rake in such profits, they'll explain how this wizardry works!
