I wrote this comment today "Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again!"
This theme song for All in the Family encapsulates the myth of Herbert Hoover,
and it made me think... I can just imagine Darn and his family watching it and nodding.
This is the world he's living in...

Hoovervilles were shanty towns and slums built during the Republican Great Depression by the homeless in the United States.
They were named after Herbert Hoover.

Watching world traveler Rick Steeves, who comments that European countries have a top-tax rate of 60% or higher,
and everyone is taken care of, everyone has healthcare, everyone is happy,
but in this country we must cut away at our social safety net.

if his right wing government outlawed his union, and his pay and benefits got cut in half, then when he retired, he had to get by on a third of what he was promised when his corporation bailed out of funding his pension with a bankruptcy.
