...but Trump is just trying to bait them into provoking the ships he sent into the region to give him pretext to attack them.

Too bad for him that his own intel agencies declined to cite any tie between Maduro and any narco terrorist gang.

Biden was using soft power: (which I support)

Secret deal: Biden offered normal relations with Venezuela if Maduro agreed to elections

The Biden administration had agreed to lift sanctions on Venezuela and promised the return of normal relations if the opposition could participate in competitive presidential elections, according to a deal secretly signed in Qatar last year that leader Nicolas Maduro made public on social media.

Maduro published the document Thursday, shortly before Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez won the Venezuelan presidential elections Sunday, citing the vote tallies presented by the opposition. The government-controlled electoral council said Maduro won, providing what were widely seen as fraudulent numbers.

The Qatar document shows the Biden administration struck a deal with Maduro to lift sanctions on the country’s oil, banking and gold sectors if he committed to elections and allow the opposition to compete. And it added a significant incentive to Maduro: the lifting of most sanctions after the winner took office.

At that point, the U.S. government would restore full diplomatic relations and dismantle the sanctions regime against the country, the document says. This would include unblocking all Venezuelan government assets in the United States and lifting sanctions, including individual ones imposed under an executive order.

Early on, Biden’s team turned the page from the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign policy and signaled it was willing to lift sanctions if Maduro allowed “free and fair elections.” In 2022, after intense lobbying, it authorized Chevron to expand its oil operations in the projects the company already had in Venezuela.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/venezuela/article290702924.html

__In January 2025, The Biden administration announced a slew of new sanctions against allies of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in opposition to his claim of election victory, calling his Friday inauguration “illegitimate” and a “desperate attempt to seize power.”

The U.S. is increasing its rewards for justice to $25 million for information leading to Maduro’s arrest or conviction and that of his minister of interior, Diosdado Cabello.

A $15 million reward is also being offered related to Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López, part of criminal narco trafficking indictments announced in March 2020.

The U.S. is also sanctioning eight Venezuelan officials leading key economic and security agencies; blacklisting high-level military and police officials involved in repression and human rights abuses against democratic actors; and imposing visa restrictions on “Maduro-aligned individuals” identified as undermining the electoral process or acts of repression in Venezuela.

“The Venezuelan people and world know the truth — Maduro clearly lost the 2024 presidential election and has no right to claim the presidency,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

I would have thought at least one of his sycophants would have been able to explain it to him by now.

Of course his claim is false. From Google AI:

Fact-checkers and news organizations have found no evidence that Venezuelans are entering the United States after being released from insane asylums. Multiple reports have debunked claims circulating on social media and made by political figures suggesting that South American countries are deliberately sending institutionalized people across the U.S. border.

Key facts about migration and mental health:

Fabricated claims: Allegations of foreign governments emptying prisons and mental health facilities into the U.S. are unsubstantiated. When asked for evidence, supporters of these claims have failed to provide any.

They came on their own to escape the problems there, what Trump keeps alluding to is reminiscent of the Mariel Boatlift in the 70's or 80's. I've heard that Castro used that to empty his own prisons and asylums (but I don't know if that is any more true than Trumps allegations).

Laken Riley was killed by a Venezuelan immigrant and MAGA has been blaming Joe Biden. I'll bet you none of them know about Trump's Executive Order.....

Because media never mentions it. Not even now when Trump is threatening Venezuela and deporting Venezuelans as fast as he can.

The media does America a major disservice by never mentioning Trump's out-of-the-blue Executive Order. Now seems like a great time to discuss it.

That Duterte enjoyed in the Philippines. Duterte was arrested by the ICC because of his thousands of extrajudicial killings under the auspices of a war on drugs but he had solid support for years in the Philippines.

I'm afraid it might work in America as well. Especially with Right Wing Media punching up the problem daily. 🤬

38. Venezuela is about the oil and the current potential for World War.
Sat Sep 20, 2025, 07:02 PM

Venezuela has been demonized since Chavez who:

1) Was a non-white / non-colonial leader of Venezuala

2) Nationalized the oil industry.

In WWII, the two biggest refineries serving the allies in Europe were located on nearby Aruba and Curaçao, Lago Colony and Royal Dutch Shell oil, producing a majority of the oil used by the European allies

Lago Colony was owned by Standard Oil, then the largest oil company in the world. In late 1930s about 40% of crude processed by Standard Oil in total was from the Maracaibo Basin. It was a major source of gasoline and shipped to Germany before WWII. Germany attacked Lago Colony in WWII and failed.

Royal Dutch Oil had similarly provided fuel to Japan and WWII embargoed Japan in the Pacific then lost its oil holding in the Dutch East Indies to Japan.

During the PNAC days, the USA put FOL (military lily pads) on Aruba and Curaçao for drug interdiction and with room for staging war. Other FOLs were established in Ecuador, Paraguay, Honduras and ? (note I am typing from an aging and decayed brain).

Recall The Revolution Will not be Televised https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Revolution_Will_Not_Be_Televised_(film) about the failed Chavez coup attempt in 2002. The coup attempt was followed by a western-backed national oil strike and a Venezuelan separatist movement to break off Maracaibo (western Venezuela)

Recall Natalee Holloway gone missing. It was likely used as a cover. There were multiple connections to the GOP in her classmates and Alabama community. An oil research vessel mapped the ocean floor between the Antilles and Venezuela looking for Natalee in a crab trap with the daily progress on Faux. The same area that was mined in WWII to protect against German U-Boats. Venezuela was also blamed (no doubt true) for harboring FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). There was a French mediator (can't recall the name) that met with FARC and Colombia in Ecuador. The meeting was bombed and mediators killed and subsequently the USA was told to close the FOL in Ecuador (sounds similar to Doba). Dick Cheney was on Aruba with Air Force 2 and a contingent when the FARC / Ecuador bombing occurred but that has been long disappeared from the internet. Part of the group was partying in Carlo's and Charlie's, where Natalee disappeared, when Ecudor was bombed. I am saying Natalee's misfortune was used as a cover. Aruba was formerly a Dutch holding but foreign affairs are still handled by The Netherlands. The FOL contract was with the Dutch not Arubans and many Arubans did not like the FOL as it presented a risk and some differed in POV. Have zero idea if those FOLs still exist. Infrastructure and runway improvement to handle military planes were constructed at the time 25 years ago.

If WWIII was to get real, one of the first actions would be to control western Venezuela, the richest oil patch in the western hemisphere.

Afghanistan, Iran, etc. We have an unusual knack for creating our own problems. Often I think analysts at the CIA only see what we can gain in the short term without looking at the likely hood of the target country populace rejecting "our solution".

If a regime is that bad, then we don't have to do anything. It will take care of itself. But if it succeeds, then the power brokers in this country become fearful as its a threat to them. So they have to make sure it fails.
