This is the fourth time since 2000, and of those 4, 3 were from jobs I'd voluntarily left another job to take! The lesson for me seems to be "stick with the existing shitty job cause you'll just get laid off from the next shitty job!"

Since we've always known my job was highly unstable, my partner and I have always budgeted as if we would only have one salary. This time it may end up being a forced retirement, given the market, but we can handle it. Our income is going to be cut in half but we won't lose the house or have to move or anything like that. In that respect, I'm both fortunate/privileged (that I've had such good paying jobs) and have planned well.
