Explosion reported in central Oslo as emergency services respond

Emergency services are responding to an explosion that occurred Tuesday evening in the Pilestredet area of central Oslo, police said.

The blast happened near Parkveien around 8:44 p.m. local time, prompting a large-scale emergency response, according to Operations Leader Vidar Pedersen.

"Emergency services are in Pilestredet following an explosion. The situation is unclear and we are working broadly at the scene," Pedersen said in a statement to the press.

The extent of any damage or injuries remains unknown, police said.

Police officials told local media that they believed the explosion was caused by a planted hand grenade, and undetonated explosives were discovered on site. The grenade was reportedly left on a tramline.

"We've apprehended one suspect and are intensively seeking more information as well as other people," Skotnes said.
"Our hypothesis is that it is criminals who have an agenda against other criminals, but we cannot rule out anything."

It says they did a controlled detonation of the other explosive.
It's also reporting that an apprehended person is 13!
