Nobel Committee Member Has Some Really Bad News for Trump’s Relentless Prize Push

Donald Trump’s open pining for a Nobel Peace Prize may actually damage the president’s chances of ever being awarded the prestigious honor and the $1 million that comes with it.

While not mentioning the president by name, Asle Toje, deputy leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said that “influence campaigns” are more likely to have “a negative effect than a positive one” when the panel decides who gets the annual award.

“Some candidates push for it really hard and we do not like it,” Toje told Reuters. “We are used to work in a locked room without being attempted to be influenced. It is hard enough as it is to reach an agreement among ourselves, without having more people trying to influence us.”

I know how you can win a Nobel peace prize, make an executive order banning assault weapons for civilians. We have that war you can possibly end, forget about the 7 you’re lying about ending.

The award itself should never be the main aim of any peacemaker.

But Trump won't be happy, he can name a number of peace achievements!
- brought peace and harmony across the land of the US. So much peace, the troops have nothing to do but pick up litter.

- stopped the war between Gondwanaland and Eurasia, a war that has been going on for millennia and was literally tearing the world apart.

- stopped the war between North Eastphalia and South Eastphalia.

- currently working on stopping the wars between Russia and Ukraine, as well as Israel at war with everybody not Israeli.

So credit to Trump, give him that peace prize, ok?
(If only just to shut him up about it.)

Perhaps the committee could make up a special Junior award, engraved 'Nice try, but could do better!' and offer that for sale to Trump as a minimal cost, say US $10B?

Nobel not going to happen. Israel was so baited into doing this due to Oct 7 and the hostage crisis that continues. What's Trump's excuse for encouraging ethnic cleansing in transforming Gaza into a Trump resort?

Who refused the Nobel Peace Prize because fighting in Vietnam hadn’t stopped yet.

Then you have this nitwit who publicly lobbies for one when he hasn’t ended the wars he said he would.

Whatever you feel about past Nobel laureates, nobody, to the best of my knowledge, publicly lobbied for one.

And that speaks volumes.

As a video catches foreign leaders laughing at one of the American president's mistakes, this was not an isolated incident.

As a video catches foreign leaders laughing at one of Trump’s mistakes, remember: This wasn’t the first time officials abroad used the Republican president as a punchline.

For all of his talk about global “respect,” he’s routinely seen as a joke. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-10-02T16:18:54.713Z

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/european-leaders-caught-mocking-trump-false-claim-ending-war-rcna235194

The reality, of course, is that Trump has wildly exaggerated his record, taking credit for resolving conflicts he had little to do with, and even pointing to wars that haven’t actually been resolved. What’s more, in a couple of instances, the Republican president has slipped up and pointed to wars that never happened in the first place, including an imaginary conflict between Cambodia and Armenia, as well as a recent boast on Fox News in which he said, “I solved wars that was unsolvable,” pointing to a conflict between Azerbaijan and Albania.”....

The mistake did not go unnoticed among the leaders of the relevant nations. Politico reported:

U.S. President Donald Trump’s geographic confusion was the butt of a joke between world leaders at a summit Thursday. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was filmed poking fun with French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen on Thursday.

“You should make an apology ... to us because you didn’t congratulate us on the peace deal that President Trump made between Albania and Azerbaijan,” Rama told Macron, as Aliyev was seen laughing.

Playing along, the French president replied: “I am sorry for that.”

Albanian PM Edi Rama mocked Trump to Macron: “You should congratulate Ilham Aliyev and me. Trump has ended the conflict between Albania and Azerbaijan”

Earlier Trump claimed he ended a war between Albania and Azerbaijan. It was a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

.....In 2019, for example, Macron, then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were recorded at a Buckingham Palace reception, apparently mocking their American counterpart. A year earlier, during remarks at the U.N. General Assembly, Trump bragged about how impressed he is with himself, at which point some of the diplomats in the room started audibly laughing........

For all of Trump’s boasts about how he has singlehandedly improved international respect for the United States, the evidence suggests many of his global counterparts see him as a punchline.
