Barack Obama: Republicans would rather shut down the government than help millions of Americans afford health care.

Republicans would rather shut down the government than help millions of Americans afford health care. This article tells some of their stories, and is a good reminder of what’s at stake.

I forgot whom I heard it from first, but they said it in even fewer words which is more effective. I think the message was "republicans would rather shut down the government than save healthcare." But bless him for being on script.

Edit to add: But yes, I hope they stay concentrated on repeating that ad nauseam.

President Obama hits the nail on the head. The GOP has a long track record of weaponizing government shutdowns not to protect the budget, but to block progress—especially when it comes to expanding healthcare access. Affordable care threatens their narrative because it actually works. It's sad that millions of Americans have to suffer just to serve a political agenda. Healthcare should never be a bargaining chip.

When Barack Obama was creating the Affordable Care Act, Republicans forced debate on it for a year, wanting this change and that change and when it came up for a vote not a single Republican voted for it and boasted to friends that they had delayed passage of the ACA for a year.

Hurting people they hate is their primary political goal, even when they suffer, too.
