"Motive Still Unclear After 4 Killed, 8 Wounded in Michigan Church Attack" : CNN "breaking news" now

How long will they play dumb? Any guesses? I wonder why all these other outlets that I see posted on DU are able to find pictures of the suspect's Trump sign on his property and "make liberals cry" t-shirt? It's a mystery alright.

do Mormons believe in Jesus?

At one time a lot of Christan sects had battles with Mormons, they do seem to have made peace however.

by a lot of mainstream Christians. They believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three distinct beings, and that the Father and Jesus have perfected, glorified, physical bodies, while the Holy Ghost is a spirit without a physical body. This is contrary to the Nicene Creed, which avoids claims of polytheism by decreeing that the Trinity is a single entity with three aspects. They also believe that there are other gods and goddesses, such as a Heavenly Mother—who is married to God the Father—and that they can attain "godhood" in the afterlife. Joseph Smith taught that God was once a man on another planet before being exalted to Godhood.

And to prevent anti-gun sentiment from rising up and the guns being taken away.

Mormons supported Trump by around a 2 to 1 margin in 2024.

If I had to speculate, I might assume that this attack was motivated by something personal, not political.

That was my first thought when I heard the story. RWNJ pissed at the Mormon's because of CK (or that event at least was the tipping point for long-held animosity)

I'm not yet disabused of that notion, though it could be totally off.

Not bashing LDS generally but they do do shady stuff as an organization, such as baptizing dead people (from what I've read)

EDIT: fixed name in title, thanks!

with the Nicene Creed they are clearly heretics. The Nicene Creed pretty much has been the measure of what it means to be a Christian since the Emperor Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire back in the fourth century.

Why he targeted them as opposed to more liberal Churches.Yes I'm aware that Kirk's shooter was raised by right wing parents. I would speculate despite being on obvious extreme maga as evident by his facebook page and the Trump yard signs and Trump gear he probably knew some liberals. I don't think mormonism is as big in Michigan as it in is in Utah. Probably didn't know any which made it easier for him desensitize himself to commit such an awful act of violence.

The political spectrum of Mormons tends to range from conservative to extremely right-wing. I guess a liberal Mormon would be one who isn't an extreme right-winger. Maybe Mitt Romney? I guess he'd qualify because he doesn't like Trump.

But to a person who drove around town with very large US flags and the occasional F
Joe Biden flag flapping in his truck bed, I think “liberal” didn’t mean to him what it means to you and me.

As a bonus, the Kirk shooter-rightly or wrongly- has been dragged into LGBTQ issues, which was probably enough to drive Mr. Flag Guy right off the edge of sanity.
