I suspect that Trump could have threatened the charges returning. As to promises of an ambassadorship or any position needing confirmation was likely never going to happen. The hearing would likely not be done by November and Trump doesn't need him then.

This is probably true and somehow even worse than a patronage gig as Ambassador to Turkey.

I really dislike Eric Adams.
