Trump spent both Saturday and Sunday at his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, with White House staff taking unusual steps to limit press visibility. On consecutive days, reporters were positioned in new locations where they could not easily watch the president board his motorcade.

The weekend jaunts also highlight Trump’s uneven footing in Virginia, where Republican contests loom but the president has kept his distance from GOP figures like Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears. On Sunday per a press pool report, the motorcade drew a visceral public response: one driver pulled onto the shoulder of I-66 and stuck a middle finger out the window as Trump’s caravan passed.......................
