Hegseth: We're empowering drill sergeants to instill healthy fear in new recruits ensuring future war fighters are forged. Yes, they can shark attack and toss bunks, swear and yes they can put their hands on recruits
Hegseth: We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement, untie hands of war fighters
No more politically correct rules of engagement

(15,598 posts)Basically, he's saying it's okay to engage in genocide - no mercy. Which means there is no constraint for "the enemy" to show any mercy to any of ours who are unlucky enough not to be slaughtered if caught.
Our soldiers can be expected to be treated like Blackwater mercenaries in Fallujah because of his drunken adolescent attitude.
But then again, this administration believes the "war fighter" is a sucker or loser if captured or injured in "battle".

(7,026 posts)Hegseth sounds just like one of these MAGA fuck-nuts who never served but who thinks the military is full of p*ssies and we need to remove all restraints in order for them to win. Same bullshit talks about the new NFL rules to improve player safety. These "manly men" think they know what is best.

(7,026 posts)Our drill sergeants at Ft. Knox in 1985 were mean and abusive, but they didn't hit any of us. They did cause pain and misery in the way they punished us with "remedial" physical training when we pissed them off. I remember one recruit passing out from having to vigorously run in place and then drop to his back to do sit-ups and then get back up to run in place and then drop again to do pushups over and over again for a good ten minutes. He finally keeled over and the drill sergeants dragged him into their office and shut the door. When the recruit emerged 20 minutes later his eyes had the look of a dead fish's eyes.
The drill sergeants certainly had creative ways to physically punish us and while I can chuckle at it now, at the time it was pretty intense.

(4,370 posts)Our DI joined their DI in kicking him. They go no response from him. It turned out he'd had a heart attack.
They took him away on a stretcher and we never knew if he lived or not.
Yeah. They were creative in PT punishment. I got called into their hut once for some trifling sin like failing to say "Sir" loud enough. They didn't hit me that time but had me "assume the Chinese sitting position". I had to put my back against the wall and slide down until it was knee level and hold my self up against the wall with my thighs. Within 3 minutes I was pouring sweat from the pain. They had a good laugh and set me loose.
At some point, early in boot, I realized that I had made the greatest mistake of my life when I signed up and muttered the oath.
