(64,637 posts)The concept was explained in the 1969 book The Peter Principle (William Morrow and Company) by Laurence Peter and Raymond Hull.[3] Hull wrote the text, which was based on Peter's research. Peter and Hull intended the book to be satire,[4] but it became popular as it was seen to make a serious point about the shortcomings of how people are promoted within hierarchical organizations. The Peter principle has since been the subject of much commentary and research.

(7,593 posts)Approximately 70% of Majors will make it to Lt. Colonel and 50% of Lt. Colonels will make it to Colonel.
Most Captains will have completed some sort of advanced schooling before moving on to Major. Without an advanced degree, he would probably be in the bottom 30% when being reviewed for promotion.

(72,531 posts)... TACO has the same problem Putin has: when you limit who you listen to, you limit what you get to hear. I think they got cheer-led into what Gen Kelly and his brother told them about what the military "really"wanted.
I can't believe that TACO thought this would be such a great thing after the "kiss my ass" birthday parade the Pentagon threw him last year.
