Fed workers say they're stressed, financially stretched by government shutdown

While Republicans and Democrats remain locked in a budget stalemate that has shut down the federal government, some workers cast into limbo said they are already feeling stressed over how they will make ends meet.

The government shutdown entered its second day on Thursday with no resolution imminent, leaving some furloughed workers like Mark Cochran worried about how he and his family will get by without pay.

Cochran, who works for the National Park Service in Newburg, Pennsylvania, is one of about 750,000 federal workers slated to be furloughed, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Cochran told ABC News that his daughter just started college.

I understand the stress part, but I thought paychecks were issued just two days ago.

This upcoming Saturday is the end of the pay period in which we get our first October check next Thursday or Friday (depending on the financial institution); those put on furlough without pay will only get 56 hours instead of the full 80, and then - no hours until they start work again.

Depending on if you're supporting a family and which paycheck you pay your rent or mortgage and any other outstanding bills (car payment, student loan) on, you can be in huge trouble by the end of the October if you're a GS 11 or below employee (between $24 and $60K annually) and your federal paycheck is the only family income.
Especially since it's clear the Administration is already talking about firing employees they just put on furlough in another round of drowning the government in the Project 2025 bathtub.

This shit is going on too far. Fuck Fox, fuck Mike Johnson, fuck Donald Trump, fuck the GOP. Enough is enough! It's time to put the adults back in charge and kick the screaming toddlers to the curb!
