A majority of Republican voters, including Donald Trump loyalists, want enhanced subsidies under the Affordable Care Act to be renewed, a key sticking point in the government shutdown, according to a new poll.
In total, 59 percent of Republicans and 57 percent of self-identified MAGA voters want to keep the Obamacare subsidies set, which are to expire at the end of the year unless Congress strikes a deal, the nationwide survey found.
The fight over the subsidies has helped push the government into its first shutdown in six years.
Democrats say they will not support a continuing resolution to temporarily fund and reopen the government unless the GOP agrees to renew the subsidies for low-income health insurance. They are also demanding that Trumps proposed Medicaid cuts, outlined in his big beautiful spending bill, be scrapped.

(19,876 posts)if the people it is about actually care about the result.
Republicans don't seem to think they will have to compete in elections anymore. Most of them seem certain that what they say and do will not matter.

(344 posts)Shocked that 57% magas even know that Obamacare is the ACA. I've seen quite a few interviewed before the election who wanted Obamacare repealed and wanted to keep their coverage through the ACA.
You really can't fix stupid

(10,609 posts)My state government disregards the will of the people all the time and yet the republicans always get reelected.
Medicare expansion- Unicameral slow walked it and tried to stop it. Expansion was on the ballot and passed easily.
Medical marijuana- passed by the voters by 70%! - commission charged with this is making it so hardly anyone will be eligible to get it
Not sure why Congress will be any different when it comes to the will of the people.

And, effective socialism for republican candidates in the form of huge donations from those rich people who the republicans are giving rich guy socialism to.

(5,076 posts)Hes in there now and doesnt need them anymore. And further, the Republicans dont need them anymore. Theyve broken the government and are in the process of implementing the Orban model.
They can do anything they want now. If it hurts you
oh well. Do something about it. And no one will.
