Oooh, CNN is "being mean" about a billionaire. Call the junior high school hotline!!!

More opinion - BBC radio had the president and VP of a university Swift fan club lined up to talk about it a few hours after the release, and they both said "yeah, not one of her best" https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002k4p3 (from about 2 hr 55 mins).

I can see your point about the "text interview". But trying to marry that to an article quoting some mixed reviews of a new album is a Mr. Fantastic-level stretch.

that the response to the album had been poor in some places.

"The title of the CNN encourages hatred of Taylor Swift." Get a sense of proportion.

" They have a double standard, one for Trump and one for democrats" Could be true.

"and people who support democrats, like Swift." Please, don't try to politicise an album release that is about how great Travis Kelce's dick is.

You don’t like Swift. But just because you don’t like someone doesn’t justify CNN encouraging hatred of that person.
And CNN does have a double standard. Jake Tapper did a text interview with Trump but wrote a book attacking Biden. Let’s not pretend that is not a double standard. I’ll let Lawrence O’Donnell explain it to you.

is "encouraging hatred"

Let's be serious; there is far too much encouragement of hatred in the world. But that is the crap coming from Republicans about "left-wing terrorism", calling judges insurrectionists and so on. Showing people that a major artist's latest release has disappointed some is nothing like "encouraging hatred", and it cheapens the word "hatred" to misuse it like that.

But right and wrong should not have degrees or conditions just because you don’t like the person who it’s directed at or to defend a corporate media organization. Titling an article ‘ Finally, everyone can say bad things about Taylor Swift’ is encouraging hate whether you can see past your bias and admit it or not.

and then work out some priorities. Defending a pop star from bad reviews is not opposing hate. Trying to link the bad reviews to politics will just make your political message fall flat. And make people laugh.

or about her album. It’s about their use of incendiary language in the headline and their double standard when they deal with Trump versus everyone else. And not just Trump, think of the outcry if the same language about the late Charlie Kirk. Jimmy Kimmel was suspended for far less. Like it or not, Taylor Swift is a human being and that language is unacceptable for any human being. Just because you hate her doesn’t make it ok. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Critic of a record is fine, expected even, but to use this language in 2025 about anyone let alone someone with known stalkers and who the President of the United States has gone after is dangerous.

Plus let’s not pretend that she’s “just a pop star” and it isn’t political.

23. This is the first time you've mentioned that "open season" remark
Wed Oct 8, 2025, 05:16 AM
Oct 2025

which they used on social media. There is a difference between "say bad things", which is criticism, and "open season", which, although no doubt intended as a metaphor, is not good language in a country with more guns than people, and a wide variety of nutters owning a lot of the guns.

I do not "hate" Taylor Swift; as I said, I'm indifferent to her music (as I am to the vast majority of current performers). So she's mainly a cultural phenomenon to me. She treated the workers on her huge tour very well, and seems like a nice person. But "open season" is the first problem that's come up in this thread. as the person on Threads said, "Critic of a record is fine, expected even".

Again this is about CNN and their choice of language when reporting on Trump and those on the right versus democrats and those on the left. Trying to move the goalposts to claim it’s just about criticizing her album because you hate Swift is intellectually dishonest.

And, again, I don't hate Swift. I've already said that. You're just not even trying to argue in good faith. You're making things up. I answered someone who wanted to know where the criticism is, and I gave an example (CNN gave several more, of course). And the CNN article you put a screenshot of in the OP was just about criticizing her album. So talking about that is not moving the goalposts.

You made a silly, unjustified link between 2 things CNN did, and now you're making things up to try and justify that. The intellectual dishonesty is from you.

and keep making this about Swift, exposes that you're fixated on her and hate her so stop pretending that you don't. And if it is about criticizing her album wouldn't "Taylor Swift is facing criticism for new Album" be a more a more accurate and less incendiary title instead of "Finally, everyone can say bad things about Taylor Swift"?
The title of my OP is "So CNN is doing text interviews with Trump". It has always been about how CNN covers and treats Trump versus other people, especially people on the left. But you are so blinded by your hatred of Swift, that you keep trying to move the goal posts and make it about her. It's not.

Just LOL.

You're disowning your own OP now. You said fuck all about the text interviews (and still have said fuck all), but went to the trouble of taking a screenshot of the Swift story, and proudly informed us you weren't giving a link (as if the screenshot is all that mattered). And didn't actually talk about "the left".

No, I don't hate Swift. That's a lie from you. I'm far from "fixated on her"; as I've said, I don't care about her music. But when I gave another DU another example of a bad review, you've leapt in and tried to claim I'm moving the goalposts from your "CNN says people are giving Swift bad reviews" OP.

You think "people can say bad things about Swift" is "incendiary??? Fuck me, your sense of proportion has completely disappeared.

If you don't want your Swift-themed thread to be about Swift, then talk about something else.
