10. National Guard are Regular People with Regular Jobs

In the US, many (if not most) regular people are not exactly fit. I don't want to disparage them. These are the people that come to our aid after Hurricanes, they help our firefighters, they clear roads and have water and ice stations for the public. I am grateful for their service. I don't think (m)any of them even want to be there in that photo.

The criticism should go to the administration, for taking them all away from their homes. I think we need to be careful about dissing them, we are going to need their good intentions (and horror for any kind of attack on citizens), I fear.

I don't think the National Guard has done any of that. I listened to a hearing about it the other day. They are not allowed to perform any kind of policing. Only to protect federal buildings and Homeland Security (that is where it gets sticky, but I have yet to see any kind of policing actually done by National Guard guys.

I fault the administration for TRYING to intimidate us with these guys, but so far I think they have not been involved with taking people into custody or policing.

Now that a court has ruled (twice) that the administration is prohibited from sending ANY national guard to Portland, we are at the point where we will find out if the administration complies. This is where we are truly at a Constitutional Crisis. And how the Guard react to orders that defy the courts is very important. I hope they abide by the law and defy the Administration. (I haven't read any news reports yet today, maybe this has already happened).
