Florida bill would require universities to rename streets in honor of Charlie Kirk

Some Florida universities may need to rename certain streets after Charlie Kirk or risk losing state funding, if a state lawmaker gets his way.

Republican Rep. Kevin Steele of Dade City filed a bill Tuesday that would require trustees at dozens of Florida colleges to rename roadways, or portions of roadways, in honor of Kirk, a conservative activist who was shot and killed at a Utah college last month.

Under the bill, which did not have a Senate companion as of Tuesday afternoon, schools that fail to rename the roadways could see their state funding withheld.

If the bill passes, the University of Florida will need to redesignate Stadium Road as Charlie James Kirk Road.

That arsehole DeSantis made a huge point of taking over one of the coolest schools in the state—New College—and trying to transform it into the epitome of “anti-wokeness” by gutting the curriculum, adding sports (there is no room for football fields or stadiums, mind you), and even attempting to roll the reknowned Ringling Museum into the property—all a miserable failure.

You can no longer create your own major (I remember one year a guy created a social experiment where he went to class wearing nothing but a tie for a semester), and the latest farce is that they’ve agreed to install a fucking Charlie Kirk fountain (sure to be the target of sustained vandalism). They’re bleeding students, losing staff, and becoming a laughing stock. Of *course* they’re going to push this farce to the limits.

Just like Florida schools in general, none of their decisions is for the benefit of students or communities.

Lawton Chiles has been spinning in his grave for years now. I should probably consider starting a GoFundMe to get out of this state (I’m probably too old to attract a lovely Scot or Canadian man to whisk me away to a sane place now. ) because I don’t see things improving any time soon.
