Instead, Dallas U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who has not disclosed her plans for 2026, has a 6-point lead over state Rep. James Talarico of Austin and a 2-1 advantage over Colin Allred, the former Congress member who came up short in a run for the Senate in 2024. Beto O'Rourke, who has twice lost statewide general election races but so far is not running this cycle, is tied with Talarico in the latest poll by the University of Houston and Texas Southern University.

I would love to have her voice in the Senate.

(3,132 posts)And maybe consider a run for Governor.
Right now Talarico is the best bet for the Senate.

(38,109 posts)Black woman. Not as Senator and not as Governor. They just won't do it.
Wouldn't mind if in the future she was considered for Attorney General of the USA.

(20,388 posts)There has been a lot of migration into Texas in the last ten to twenty years, many of these people have been blue leaning, but many are red. Its true that all of the large metro areas like DFW, Houston, and Austin are reliably blue, but once you get ten miles outside the city limits in these areas its blood red. Thats how the Republicans have kept a stranglehold on the Statehouse. Im sorry, but rural Texas voters are just not going to vote for a black woman, no matter how qualified and smart she is.

(38,109 posts)The voter suppression too. And gerrymandering - Fed and State.
I think it will be easier to get PA and Ohio back than Texas for a very long time. TX is like FL -
Too many of our Democratic Party brothers and sisters have boots on their neck by magapubs. We support you guys - but I don't see the pathway until these magapub policies start hurting Floridians and Texans in masse.

(4,991 posts)As the racism still seems to run deep, as does the misogyny. I may be wrong but no women in any statewide office there, correct?
As long as her seat remains ungerrymandered, like AOC, I think Crockett should stay as s strong, attention getting Progressive in the House. Think Maxine Waters, or dare I say, Shirley Chisolm!

(4,991 posts)I still believe both are more valuable, right now, where they are. Speaker AOC has a nice ring to it, down the road.

(7,059 posts)A handful of model's I've read through show trump will be depressing conservative voter turnout and simultaneously increasing Dem turnout as the midterms come around. The current Cornyn-Paxton tiff is putting them in even worse lighting. I won't count it out or dismiss it.
