I wonder how Trump would have responded. Actually I don't have to wonder; I know.

But this was real. As one comment said, it takes a lot to make an old Norwegian choke up. And Machado was truly speechless and clearly understood what the award was all about.

She was so humble.

she's been a steadfast advocate for fair elections in Venezuela and an advocate for democracy vs. Maduro's dictatorship. Might want to read a bit about her: https://worldfellows.yale.edu/person/maria-corina-machado/
Machado was awarded the 2024 Václav Havel Human Rights Prize by the Council of Europe. ... Along with Edmundo González, she was awarded the Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament on 24 October 2024 for "representing the people of Venezuela fighting to restore freedom and democracy." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Corina_Machado Some previous winners of the Sakharov Prize include Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Aleksei Navalny and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

* she has praised KRASNOV in the past;

* dedicated the Nobel to him;

* might well be for democracy, but from her Right wing end of that country's politics, which is fine - sort of like actual Conservatives here?

No need for upset on account of my uninformed, internet comment.

8. The "fishing boat" meme is kind of silly IMO

While killing drug smugglers is wrong, actual South American fishermen don't have multiple expensive high powered gas guzzling outboards on their boats, nor do they run at high speed (high gas consumption) and they have lots of fishing gear in evidence, not lots of plastic wrapped packages taking up most of the floor space. Just a single 300hp Mercury outboard is over $32,000.

My 1st job was on a charter fishing boat in the Gulf of Nicoya in Costa Rica and have seen many a local commercial fishing boat for comparison.

You have this type:
?w=480&auto=format%2Ccompress&fit=max

Or this:

Or Charter fishing for tourists:

My technique is to post on the internet some throwaway tidbit from off the top of my head - and, voila, internet happens.

One thing I *don't* do is to look for and parrot memes about things - they're all mine!

We actually lived on it for two years until we bought our Blue Water which was our much larger and roomier home for 15 years. I miss those days; nothing better than boat living!
