When you see where he started in the first term about protesters and his suggestion to cops that it was OK to rough up people when they get arrested you can see his progression now with how he has turned ICE-American Gestapo loose on people. All while he watched people like Erdogan and Netanyahu. The American air strikes on Iran increased his level of satisfied feeling that killing gives him.

The deaths during Covid pleased him no doubt but he wouldn't get that immediate "feed" to his sickness until he could issue orders and within minutes watch the kill happen and revel in his power to directly cause immediate death by his choosing. Notice how you hear him talk more and more about what he wants to do to various individuals or how he singles them out knowing the dramatic increase in death threats will follow.

You can be sure he has been envious of Netanyahu and the blood lust in him will not stop growing. Will his medical issues overtake him before he can provoke some sort of major conflict? That might be our only hope.

And if they really were transporting drugs, why didn't the Coast Guard board the vessel and impound the cargo so Trump could show real evidence of a real interdiction?
